Mentos Launches Fizzooka In Fortnite Creative

The iconic cola experiment gets a gaming twist with new tactical item and real-life version

In a dazzling blend of nostalgia and innovation, Mentos has teamed up with BBH London to launch the Mentos Fizzooka, a custom rocket launcher that brings the iconic Mentos and cola experiment into the gaming universe of Fortnite Creative. This collaboration not only revives a classic science experiment that has entertained audiences for over two decades but also introduces a playful and tactical element to one of the most popular games in the world.

The Fizzooka, designed to look like a giant Mentos pack strapped to a cola bottle, allows players to blow up their opponents' builds with a single explosive shot. This new item is not just a whimsical addition to the game; it marks the first tactical item in Fortnite Creative specifically designed to take down builds, much to the delight of gamers who often find themselves frustrated by the structures created by their opponents.

Stu Royall, creative director at BBH London, explained the motivation behind this unique project. “Our brief was to inject Mentos into culture, and if there’s one thing Mentos is already famous for, it’s the Mentos and cola experiment. So it made sense to use that as the catalyst,” he said. The timing felt right for a reboot of this classic experiment, especially given the surge in popularity of gaming among Mentos’ core audience.

“Fortnite Creative is an incredibly innovative and playful platform,” Royall added. “Where else can you run around dressed as a giant pickle laying waste to your opponents with an arsenal that would make Q from James Bond blush?” The design of the Fizzooka not only captures the essence of Fortnite’s exaggerated and comical aesthetic but also ensures it serves a practical function in gameplay.

In addition to the digital version of the Fizzooka, a real-life counterpart has been developed in collaboration with YouTube innovators The Hacksmith. This version creates turbocharged soda geysers, bringing the fun of the cola explosion into the real world. Influencers across 20 global markets will receive replicas of the Fizzooka, which are expected to create a buzz on social media as they showcase the explosive antics of the device.

The Hacksmith, known for transforming fictional gadgets into real-life creations, took on the challenge of building the Fizzooka with enthusiasm. “Their brief was to create a supercharged Mentos Fizzooka, ideally one capable of knocking down a wall. And boy did they deliver,” Royall said, noting that the Hacksmith team’s demonstration resulted in an impressive explosion that sent them flying, although thankfully without injuries.

As players dive into Fortnite Creative with the new Fizzooka, they can expect a blend of fun and strategy. The item is designed to not only destroy builds but also to explode after a certain period, adding an element of risk to its use. “It’s a ridiculously high-powered launcher capable of destroying opponents’ builds in a single shot, but also capable of blowing up itself at a moment’s notice,” Royall explained.

The Fizzooka is part of a broader trend of integrating popular culture into gaming, and Mentos aims to leverage this campaign to build its brand in a fresh and engaging way. “We are tracking everything, as you’d expect, but the most important KPI is to build the Mentos brand,” Royall stated. He emphasized the enduring appeal of the Mentos and cola experiment, which has historically served as many people's first introduction to scientific experimentation.

As the Mentos Fizzooka makes its debut, it promises to not only entertain but also to inspire a new generation of gamers and experimenters. “Hopefully it’s a catalyst for a new cohort to discover the fun and chaotic messiness of the experiment itself,” Royall concluded, hinting at the potential for further innovations in the future.

Meanwhile, the excitement surrounding Fortnite continues with the introduction of new Twitch Drops that coincide with the ongoing collaboration with Mortal Kombat. Players can earn exclusive cosmetic items by watching their favorite streamers play Fortnite on Twitch, further enhancing the gaming experience.

These Fortnite Twitch Drops include the Command Executor Pickaxe, available to players who accumulate one hour of watch time between March 28 and March 31, 2025. Additionally, players can unlock three Klassic Kombat Set Wraps by watching streams starting March 31, with each wrap requiring varying amounts of watch time.
