Menoufia And Mansoura Universities Rise Significantly In Global Rankings

Recent achievements reflect dedication to educational excellence and research innovation aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

On March 15, 2025, Menoufia University and Mansoura University made headlines with their remarkable achievements in the global academic performance rankings for the year 2024-2025. Dr. Ahmed Farag El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, proudly announced the university’s significant rise to 793rd place out of 3000 institutions worldwide, improving its standing by 11 places from the previous year. This advancement indicates the university’s commitment to enhancing its educational quality and research capabilities.

Mansoura University, on the other hand, achieved even greater acclaim, ranking 397th globally and securing the second position among Egyptian governmental universities. Dr. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, emphasized this success as indicative of the university's dedication to implementing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives aimed at improving the competitiveness and quality of university education across Egypt. He stated, "This new international achievement is evidence of Mansoura University's commitment to achieving academic excellence, through supporting researchers and providing advanced educational environments."

This rise is not merely numerical; it reflects the strategic efforts being made within these institutions to align with sustainable development goals, particularly those associated with Egypt's Vision 2030. Both universities are actively enhancing their research output, fostering international collaborations, and increasing publication rates, factors measured by international academic ranking systems. The push to improve not only complies with national educational policies but aims to place these institutions on the world academic map.

"This progress reflects our ambition to improve the educational process and research capabilities, alongside enhancing international cooperation and publication metrics," added Dr. El-Kased. The focus on producing quality research is foundational to the newly adopted ranking system called University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP), which evaluates universities based on six key performance indicators, including research quality, production volume, citation impact, and international research collaboration.

Dr. Hatem Sid Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information at Menoufia University, noted the key criteria used by URAP: quality and quantity of scientific publications and their citations, as well as the extent of international participation. "We aim to maintain and build on these advancements to secure our place as leaders not just regionally but globally," he mentioned, underscoring the focus on continuous improvement.

The influence of national leadership cannot be underestimated; President El-Sisi's missions have been pivotal, fostering strategic goals for educational excellence and research efficacy. The Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ayman Ashour, supports universities nationwide to spearhead advancements, and Dr. Khater highlighted the alignment of these strategies as aligning perfectly with sustainable development ideals.

Dr. Tarek Ghloush, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies at Mansoura University, stressed the importance of teamwork among faculty, researchers, and students. He remarked, "This international achievement is the fruit of hard work and fruitful cooperation between all parties involved, and we will continue to invest resources toward enhancing our academic and research environments for future successes."

Both institutions have started recognizing the need to nurture their human resources as integral to their growth. Creating conducive learning and research ecosystems has become central to their vision. This foresight is aligned closely with both national policies and global expectations for educational quality and research impact.

While the numerical rankings change annually, the underlying goals remain constant: to create accessible, high-quality higher education and innovation environments which yield groundbreaking research and address both local and global challenges. The progress made by Menoufia University and Mansoura University demonstrates not only their resilience but also their unyielding commitment to providing education and research excellence.

This impressive progress and recognition within global rankings showcase the significant strides Egyptian universities have made on the international stage. These developments serve as motivation for all universities across Egypt to continue to strive for excellence, fostering environments of innovation and productivity aligned with global academic standards.

With these significant achievements, the universities hope to inspire their communities, encouraging continuous collaboration, innovation, and excellence within academic circles to propel Egyptian higher education to new heights.
