Meghan Trainor Opens Up About Weight-Loss Journey

Singer discusses her transformation and the use of Mounjaro in her health journey

Meghan Trainor, the 31-year-old Grammy-winning singer, has opened up about her remarkable body transformation, attributing her recent weight loss to a combination of lifestyle changes and the use of the weight-loss drug Mounjaro. At the Billboard Women in Music event held on March 29, 2025, Trainor was honored with the Hitmaker Award, but she expressed frustration over the focus on her appearance rather than her music.

In an Instagram post shared after the event, Trainor reflected on her journey, stating, "No, I don’t look like I did 10 years ago. I’ve been on a journey to be the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me. I’ve worked with a dietician, made huge lifestyle changes, started exercising with a trainer, and yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy. And I’m so glad I did because I feel great."

Trainor, who is a mother of two—son Riley, 4, and son Barry, 20 months—revealed that she developed gestational diabetes after her second pregnancy. This health challenge motivated her to seek out effective ways to manage her weight and overall health. She emphasized the importance of taking control of her health for the sake of her family.

During her talk with Entertainment Tonight, Trainor elaborated on her fitness journey, explaining, "Science is the secret. I love it. I learned a lot of tricks that I had no idea about. I was working out so incorrectly for so long. I was running and doing cardio, and my body was inflamed, always." This revelation highlights the singer's commitment to understanding her body better and making informed decisions about her health.

In her quest for wellness, Trainor has also been exploring the concept of "biohacking," which involves using science and technology to enhance physical and mental performance. She stated, "I’m trying to biohack my body, so anything that'll help me age backward, I’m into it." This includes her interest in NAD supplements, which she jokingly referred to by saying, "Make me Hailey Bieber, I'll do it, I'll take it." NAD, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is known for its role in cellular function and energy production.

Despite her excitement about her transformation, Trainor expressed disappointment that many questions at the event focused on her body rather than her music and achievements. She noted, "But it’s a little disheartening that so many of the questions (and comments) were focused on my body instead of my music, my passion, or the decade of hard work that got me here. This is what it’s like to be a woman in the music industry." Her comments underscore the ongoing challenges women face in the entertainment industry regarding societal expectations and body image.

Trainor's openness about her health journey resonates with many, especially as more celebrities are beginning to speak out about their experiences with weight-loss medications. Mounjaro, the drug she mentioned, is a semaglutide injectable that has gained popularity for its effectiveness in aiding weight loss, particularly among individuals with type 2 diabetes. The FDA approved Mounjaro for weight-loss treatment in November 2023, making it a viable option for those struggling with obesity.

As she embraces her new lifestyle, Trainor also encourages other women to be kinder to themselves. She said, "Breathe, take a deep breath. Go easy on yourself, be kinder to yourself or try... if you're not there yet, start, start doing that because you have to rewire your brain." This message of self-compassion is a powerful reminder in a world often focused on appearance and perfection.

In addition to her weight-loss journey, Trainor has also undergone cosmetic procedures, including a breast augmentation and lift, which she discussed with enthusiasm, stating, "These are the boobs of my dreams. I have never been more comfortable in my body." This candidness about her body transformation reflects a broader trend among celebrities who are increasingly transparent about their choices regarding body image and self-care.

Meghan Trainor's journey is not just about weight loss; it is a multifaceted approach to health and wellness that includes mental, emotional, and physical aspects. As she continues to navigate her career and personal life, her story serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the importance of self-acceptance and the pursuit of health over societal standards.

As she concluded her Instagram post, Trainor emphasized the need to shift the conversation away from superficial judgments, stating, "Here’s to celebrating talent, growth, and the power of putting yourself first. Let’s keep shifting the convo to what REALLY matters." This call to action encourages a more meaningful dialogue around body image and personal growth, resonating with fans and followers alike.

In a world where the pressures of appearance can be overwhelming, Meghan Trainor's journey offers a refreshing perspective on health, self-love, and the importance of focusing on what truly matters—talent, passion, and personal well-being.
