Meghan Trainor Opens Up About Weight Loss Journey

The singer addresses scrutiny over her appearance and emphasizes health over looks

Meghan Trainor has opened up about her significant weight loss journey, revealing that she used weight-loss injections after her second pregnancy. The Grammy-winning artist, known for her hit "All About That Bass," expressed her frustration over the focus on her appearance rather than her music during a recent social media post marking her acceptance of the Hitmaker Award at the 2025 Billboard Women in Music Awards.

In her Instagram post, Trainor, 31, shared her mixed feelings about the scrutiny women face in the music industry. "Feeling so honored to be recognized by @billboard Women in Music as a Hitmaker—what a dream! But it’s a little disheartening that so many of the questions (and comments) were focused on my body instead of my music, my passion, or the decade of hard work that got me here. This is what it’s like to be a woman in the music industry," she wrote.

Trainor, a mother of two, acknowledged the changes in her appearance over the years, stating, "No, I don’t look like I did 10 years ago. I’ve been on a journey to be the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me." She emphasized the lifestyle adjustments she has made, which include working with a dietician, exercising with a trainer, and making significant lifestyle changes.

In her candid remarks, she also gave a shoutout to Mounjaro, a weight-loss drug, saying, "And yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy. And I’m so glad I did because I feel great." Her admission has sparked discussions about the increasing popularity of weight-loss medications like Mounjaro and Ozempic, which have reportedly been used by millions of people in the United States.

At the Billboard event, Trainor was praised for her health journey, which she described as a transformative experience. "Science is the secret. I love it," she noted when asked about her health journey. She shared that she had learned new ways to work out effectively, stating, "I was working out so incorrectly for so long. I was running and doing cardio and my body was inflamed, always." Her commitment to fitness has led her to explore biohacking techniques, including taking NAD supplements, which she believes help her age backwards.

Despite the positive feedback from fans, Trainor expressed disappointment that much of the attention surrounding her has been about her physical appearance rather than her artistic accomplishments. "It’s a little disheartening that so many of the questions were focused on my body instead of my music," she reiterated in her posts. Her honesty about her struggles with body image resonates with many, especially given the societal pressures women face regarding beauty standards.

Trainor's journey has not only been about weight loss but also about self-acceptance and health. She has previously shared that she developed gestational diabetes after giving birth to her sons, Riley, 4, and Barry, 21 months, with her husband, Daryl Sabara. Her commitment to a healthier lifestyle has been driven by her desire to be an active and engaged mother.

In 2022, Trainor revealed that she had lost 60 pounds after reaching her heaviest weight following the birth of her first son. She has been open about her experiences with weight fluctuations and body image, stating, "I want to run and keep up with my kid. I want to be able to put on a bathing suit and run out there and not be in my head about it." Her determination to prioritize her health for her children's sake has become a motivating factor in her journey.

Moreover, Trainor has undergone cosmetic procedures, including a breast augmentation, which she described as the "boobs of my dreams." She expressed satisfaction with her decision, highlighting the support she received from fellow mothers after sharing her experience publicly. "At first, you’re a little scared, I guess," she said, reflecting on the reactions she received.

While Trainor embraces her transformation, she also acknowledges the complexities surrounding body image in the entertainment industry. She pointed out that the focus on her appearance is indicative of a broader issue that many women face, where their achievements are often overshadowed by their looks.

As she continues to navigate her career and personal life, Trainor remains committed to promoting a healthier dialogue about body image and self-acceptance. "Here’s to celebrating talent, growth, and the power of putting yourself first. Let’s keep shifting the convo to what REALLY matters," she concluded in her Instagram post, urging her followers to focus on what truly counts.

Trainor's journey serves as a reminder that health and wellness are personal and multifaceted. As she continues to share her story, she hopes to inspire others to embrace their own journeys, whether they involve weight loss or simply prioritizing self-care and mental health.
