The Duchess inspires at leadership forum, highlighting the importance of voice and representation for young girls

Meghan Markle recently embarked on a four-day trip to Colombia with her husband, Prince Harry, fueled with the mission of women empowerment. During this visit, they engaged with Afro-Colombian leaders and attended multiple events aimed at uplifting women from African descent.

On the final day of their tour, the couple attended the Afro-Descendant Women and Power: Voices of Equity summit held at the Enrique Buenaventura Municipal Theater in Cali. Meghan drew attention not only for her words but also for her stylish blend of elegance and local flair, sporting elegant outfits throughout their stay.

During her speech, Meghan expressed her pride as both an advocate and mother, emphasizing the importance of creating environments where younger generations, particularly girls, feel heard and valued. She shared, "I was very, very fortunate at a young age to feel as though my voice was being heard, and I think that's a luxury many young girls and women aren't often afforded."

Referencing her own experiences, she encouraged other women to find their voice as well, explaining how empowerment begins at home. "I encourage our daughter, who at three, has absolutely found her voice, and we're so proud of it," she added, referencing their daughter, Lilibet Diana.

Markle’s remarks emphasized the role of men as allies, noting how Harry exemplifies this supportive partnership. She stated, "The role of men in this empowerment of women, allowing them to know their voices are heard... is key." This sentiment was not lost on the audience, who appreciated the depth of her message.

Meghan pointed out the significance of representation, particularly for young girls who need role models to aspire to. "We all know how much representation matters," she stated, stressing how pivotal it is for individuals to see others like them succeeding.

The couple’s engagement with local cultures extended beyond discussions; they were also seen visiting San Basilio de Palenque, known as the first free African town in the Americas. There, Harry and Meghan celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Afro-Colombians, participating enthusiastically with locals.

Before the summit, the Duchess engaged with attendees of the event, which included local activists and community leaders. She addressed the challenges faced by women of African descent and how their stories are often overlooked.

Meghan's ability to speak fluently about these subjects is heightened by her foundation's work, the Archewell Foundation, which aims to support community engagement and empowerment. At this forum, she reiterated commitments to programs like the Parents Network and the Welcome Project, aimed at helping vulnerable women.

For Meghan, being comfortable and relaxed enhanced her experience, as she noted, "I'm just really relaxed on this trip... there's something liberative about being able to be yourself." The atmosphere of camaraderie and joy proved infectious, allowing for sincere cultural exchanges.

Throughout the visit, Meghan also paid homage to her own roots and the powerful women who influenced her. She recalled her mother, Doria Ragland, praising her strength and resilience, attributes she tries to instill in her children.

Meghan addressed the reality of many mothers struggling to raise their children amid modern challenges, mentioning how its part of her motivation as they create space for voices to be heard. This personal touch left attendees feeling connected, as it highlighted shared struggles and triumphs.

Highlighting the collaborative aspect of empowerment, Meghan remarked, "When women come together and support one another, we uplift our entire community." This call for unity was particularly poignant considering the socio-economic challenges many face.

While touching upon the communal effort required to uplift voices, she emphasized the role of parents who have lost children to online aggressions or other adversities, stressing their need to be heard. She stated, "Allowing those parents to be heard is very key to the work we're doing."

Drawing from her personal experiences, Meghan recounted how, at 11 years old, she affected change by writing to protest against sexist advertising. "That early realization of my voice having significance has shaped how I view empowerment and responsibility to speak out," she explained.

On stage alongside her, Harry shared words of encouragement during these heartfelt discussions, which showcased the couple's deep partnership. The subsequent interactions spoke volumes on the significance of their supportive roles not just to each other but also to their respective communities.

Despite the heavy topics discussed, Meghan’s demeanor remained lighthearted, expressing appreciation for the culture and hospitality they received. "Thank you so much for how you welcomed us... it's been like a dream on this trip," she remarked.

The sum of their Colombian adventure wasn’t merely about royal protocol; it was about human connection, collaboration, and inspiring hope. Activists and community leaders engaged not only with royal presence but with principles of empowerment and inclusion.

Following their speaking engagements, Meghan and Harry looked forward to enjoying the Petronio Alvarez Festival, which celebrates Afro-Colombian music. This event marked the finale of their enriching African cultural tour, filled with ample opportunities to savor community spirit.

Meghan's empowering message echoed throughout the summit, promising to inspire those present to continue their journeys of advocacy and voice. It appears Meghan Markle’s visit will have reverberations long after their departure, highlighting the efforts made to uplift communities and inspire future generations.
