McDonald's Rebrands Locations To Honor Connor McDavid's Winning Goal

Community rallies as Edmonton McDonald's turns McDavid's to celebrate 4 Nations victory.

McDonald's Canada recently celebrated Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid by rebranding two of its restaurants to honor him following his significant achievement at the 4 Nations Face-Off. The announcement came just days after McDavid scored the decisive goal during the championship match, leading Canada to victory against the United States.

The rebranding effort involved changing the name of one McDonald's located along Calgary Trail in Edmonton and another location in McDavid's hometown of Newmarket, Ontario, to "McDavid's." This exciting transformation took place just days after the game on February 20, 2025, and was celebrated widely on social media by the fast-food giant.

McDavid's stunning overtime goal was not just pivotal for his team but also marked his first major international title at the senior level since the 2016 World Hockey Championship. Considering his stellar career, which boasts multiple All-Star selections, three Hart Memorial Trophies, and other honors, this latest victory adds to McDavid's already impressive resume.

"It’s really nice. It’s nice to see the city come together over something, and kind of have a local hero, I guess. It’s good. It makes you feel like there’s a sense of community here," said Jordan, an Edmonton resident, reflecting on the community spirit ignited by this event.

Chat Sangha, the owner of the McDonald's on Calgary Trail, expressed similar sentiments, stating, "Oh it’s great bringing the community together, bringing all Canadians together to help celebrate the gold medal, it’s a fantastic feeling." The rebranding, originally planned for the Oilers' Stanley Cup win during the previous summer, was put on hold after the team fell short against the Florida Panthers.

Alongside the location changes, McDonald's Canada hosted special promotions throughout the weekend, including selling small fries for just 97 cents at all locations within the city, providing another opportunity for fans to share in the celebration.

The transformation and naming of the restaurants as "McDavid's" showcase how local businesses can connect with their communities by honoring their sports heroes, especially when such victories promote national pride. This event demonstrates the importance of acknowledging local accomplishments and fostering camaraderie through sports.

Overall, McDavid’s feat reignites excitement among fans and underlines his status as one of the leading figures in hockey today. At 28 years old, and with 74 points already this season, there's plenty of promise for his continuing legacy. Although one major goal still eludes him—a Stanley Cup title—McDavid can find solace and joy in knowing two McDonald's locations now share his name, celebrating not just his recent victory but the pride of his community.

Whether through their regular menu items or new celebratory promotions, McDonald's has effectively tied their brand to this momentous occasion, aiming to create lasting memories for fans and customers alike. McDavid remains not only a champion on the ice but someone who has united the community with both pride and happiness.

This milestone event is sure to be remembered as McDavid’s career progresses, making way for new opportunities and perhaps subsequent victories for his team. The rebranding of McDonald's locations stands as a fitting tribute to the superstar, marking this moment of unity as one to celebrate for years to come.
