McDonald's Extends Hours And Partners With Hatsune Miku

During Carnival, McDonald's provides late-night service and introduces exclusive products, highlighting cultural engagement.

McDonald's Enhances Customer Experience with Special Carnival Hours and New Partnerships

McDonald's officially announced the launch of special operational hours for its restaurant located on the Avenida Oceânica during this year's Carnival festival, marking the first time the fast-food chain will operate within the event's circuit. The Ondina location, situated at number 1460, will begin these extended hours starting February 22, coinciding with the Fuzuê celebration, and will continue through to February 4, the concluding day of Carnival.

The restaurant will cater to Carnival-goers from 12 PM until 5 AM the following day, providing patrons with convenient access to popular menu items. The purchasing process will adopt a walk-thru model, allowing customers to purchase directly from the drive-thru line, minimizing wait times. To streamline operations, mobile cash registers will be available on-site.

Notably, during this Carnival period, the restaurant will not allow customer access inside the dining area, designifying it solely for staff members. Special menu offerings will include the renowned Big Mac and Cheddar sandwiches, priced at R$ 25 each or bundled with a 500 ml Coca-Cola for R$ 30. To effectively manage the anticipated surge of customers, McDonald's has appointed 34 experienced employees to operate shifts and has even enlisted staff from other cities across Bahia for added support.

On another front, McDonald's Japan has teamed up with the iconic virtual idol, Hatsune Miku, to celebrate Miku Day on March 9. This collaboration, revealed through social media channels, promises fans a unique edition of the Shakashaka Potato, McDonald’s exclusive French fries offered only within the Japanese market.

The announcement was initially teased with the silhouette of Hatsune Miku, generating excitement among fans and leading to inquiries about the flavor of this special product, though it was disclosed it will not be green onion-flavored, poking fun at regular fandom jokes about the character. Miku Day is celebrated as a tribute to the popular Vocaloid, where the date, 3/9, symbolizes her name—a pun derived from how her name can be read numerically.

This isn't McDonald's first venture with Japanese pop culture icons. The chain previously collaborated with Studio Khara for exclusive figures of Neon Genesis Evangelion, developed themed Hello Kitty plushies with Konami and Sanrio, and distributed Pokémon Trading Card Game cards within Happy Meals.

Fans are surely excited for the Hatsune Miku collaboration, which is consistent with McDonald's long-standing tradition of engaging with notable figures and brands from Japan's vibrant entertainment industry. While this partnership will remain exclusive to Japanese locations, the rest of the world can follow the developments through online platforms.

Both the Carnival operation in Brazil and the collaboration with Hatsune Miku showcase McDonald's commitment to enhancing customer experience by innovatively adapting to various cultural events and engaging with its target audience through relevant partnerships. By directly appealing to the local customs of Carnival and the fandom surrounding Hatsune Miku, McDonald’s strengthens its market presence and fosters customer loyalty.

The initiatives highlight how global brands can successfully tailor their operations to connect with regional festivities and cultural icons, balancing traditional offerings with unique collaborations to ignite consumer interest.
