McDonald's Japan Welcomes New Evangelion Burgers

McDonald's Japan is raising the bar for fast food fans with its exciting new menu introductions, coinciding with unique collaborations and significant store renovations. Starting January 6, 2025, three limited-time collaboration burgers themed around the iconic anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion" will delight fans and food enthusiasts alike.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the beloved series, and the partnership with McDonald's is set to create a buzz among both anime fans and burger lovers. Each burger features colorful packaging and distinctive flavors inspired by the characters from the show. "The three Evangelion collaboration burgers are set to impress with unique flavors and playful packaging," reported culinary writer Miko, bringing attention to the innovative culinary efforts by McDonald's Japan.

Among the new offerings is the "Zaku Cut Potatoes & Thick Beef Garlic Mayo", which boasts rich flavors and hearty ingredients. Priced at ¥540 for individual items and ¥840 for value sets, it combines crispy fries with thick beef patties layered with garlic mayonnaise. Another standout is the "Mexican Cheese Chicken", wrapped up with spicy taco meat filling, crispy chicken, and can be enjoyed for ¥490 solo or ¥790 as part of a set. Finally, the "Cheese Double Teriyaki" will challenge tastebuds with its sweet and savory sauces, also available for ¥530 and ¥830 respectively.

This trio of burgers will be available until early February 2025, so fans are encouraged to experience these unique flavors during this limited-time offer.

Not to be overlooked is the enduring success of the "Samurai Mac", existing as one of McDonald's Japan's lasting popular items with over 200 million sold since its introduction. The "Samurai Mac,” featuring double beef patties and rich teriyaki flavor, costs over ¥580, which places it at the higher end of the price spectrum within the franchise. "The Samurai Mac remains popular, yet there’s curiosity about who is actually purchasing it, since it’s rarely seen as ordered on-site," stated industry expert Takao Shigemori.

Shigemori notes the demographic for the Samurai Mac leans heavily toward young men aged 20 to 30 who frequently order it for takeout after work. But there are perceptions among regular patrons of fast food establishments who feel disconnected from the allure of this product. "We aim to exceed customer expectations with our new menu offerings and revive beloved classics," stated one McDonald's Japan spokesperson, showcasing the franchise's initiative to appeal to various segments of the market.

With renovations underway at the Haneda Airport McDonald's—set to reopen by March 2025—customers can also look forward to new dining options within the airport. This significant overhaul will include not only the reopening of McDonald's but also the introduction of other eateries, effectively reinvigorate the dining experience for travelers.
