Dr. Rubén Rocha Moya, the governor of Sinaloa, is actively promoting the attractiveness of Mazatlán as a cruise destination. Through the Ministry of Tourism, he is working to ensure that major cruise lines continue to choose Mazatlán as a port of call. This initiative aims to attract new visitors to the region’s stunning beaches, rich cultural offerings, and renowned gastronomy.
The local tourism department detailed the cruise activity in the first quarter of 2025. In January, the port welcomed 13 ships carrying 48,351 passengers and 17,350 crew members. February saw 8 cruise ships with 31,943 passengers and 10,915 crew members. March was particularly busy, with 15 cruise ships arriving and bringing 57,579 passengers and 19,789 crew members. This surge of visitors resulted in a significant economic impact, generating a total of 212,860,640 pesos for the local economy during the first quarter.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Tourism has scheduled a total of 12 cruises for April 2025. Notably, the first 16 days of the month have already seen the arrival of 5 cruise ships, contributing to a total of 19,154 passengers and 6,372 crew members.

Visitors can stroll along the picturesque Malecón, enjoy the warm waters of the Pacific, or visit the historic Plazuela Machado and the stunning Ángela Peralta Theater. The city is also home to the largest aquarium in Latin America, the Mazatlán Aquarium, and provides opportunities for excursions to nearby islands, such as Isla de la Piedra and Isla de los Venados. These excursions often include chances to observe local wildlife, including birds and sea lions, or simply to indulge in the city’s globally recognized cuisine.
As the cruise industry continues to rebound post-pandemic, Mazatlán is positioning itself as a prime destination for cruise lines and travelers alike. The local government is committed to enhancing the port's capabilities to accommodate larger vessels, which will further elevate the region's tourism profile.
With its stunning coastal views, rich cultural heritage, and a commitment to providing an exceptional experience for visitors, Mazatlán is set to become an increasingly popular stop on cruise itineraries. The ongoing efforts by local authorities and the enthusiastic response from visitors reflect the city’s potential to thrive as a leading cruise destination in Mexico.
