The Hong Kong Railway (MTR) has announced that a large-scale concert will be held at the Kai Tak Sports Park starting tonight, May 9, 2025, and continuing for several consecutive days. The concert features the Taiwanese rock band Mayday, whose "Mayday Date" concert series is making its debut at this venue. The event is expected to draw a significant number of attendees, prompting the MTR to enhance train services on the Tuen Ma Line to accommodate the increased passenger volume.
Admission for the concert will begin at 5 PM, with the program starting at 7 PM. Given that the entry time coincides with the evening rush hour, MTR officials have advised concert-goers to allow ample time for their journeys. The Tuen Ma Line is likely to be busier than usual, making it essential for attendees to plan accordingly.
During the departure period, the D exits of Kai Tak Station and Sung Wong Toi Station, which are nearest to the Sports Park, are expected to be particularly crowded. MTR officials have urged passengers to exercise patience and follow the instructions of on-site staff to ensure a smooth entry and exit process. To facilitate passenger flow, the frequency of Tuen Ma Line trains will be increased to every 2 to 3 minutes.
In addition to Octopus cards and single-journey tickets, all gates at Kai Tak and Sung Wong Toi stations will accept QR codes and contactless credit/debit card payments. This will help minimize wait times for purchasing single-journey tickets. For cross-border passengers, the MTR offers convenient access to the East Rail Line from Kai Tak or Sung Wong Toi stations, allowing them to travel to Tai Wai Station and then transfer to the East Rail Line towards Lo Wu Station for border crossing.
The concert is anticipated to conclude after 10 PM, and the MTR has advised cross-border travelers to be mindful of the last train times on the East Rail Line to avoid any travel disruptions. In response to the expected influx of passengers, MTR officials will continue to monitor station operations and train services, making necessary adjustments as required.
As the concert unfolds, the weather is also a topic of concern. The Hong Kong Observatory has forecasted mostly cloudy conditions with occasional showers and thunderstorms for today, with temperatures reaching around 30 degrees Celsius. Tomorrow, the weather is expected to remain unsettled, with further showers and a drop in temperature during the evening.
For those attending the concert, the venue will open for security checks starting at 4 PM, with the admission process commencing at 5 PM. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for ticket verification and security procedures. Physical tickets can be picked up at designated Cityline locations, including Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Macau, and around 30 self-service stations in Hong Kong.
Upon entering the venue, attendees must adhere to specific regulations regarding the items they can bring. Bags and backpacks larger than 38x30x20 cm (15x12x8 inches) are prohibited. Furthermore, professional cameras, recording devices, and any dangerous items are also banned from the venue. Spectators are allowed to bring reusable water bottles not exceeding 600 ml in capacity.
For those with special needs, the Kai Tak Sports Park has made arrangements for accessible transportation and services. Individuals requiring assistance can register in advance through the park's special service hotline to ensure their needs are met during the event.
In addition to the concert, there will be official merchandise sales points located on the second floor of the Kai Tak Main Stadium and next to Central Plaza. Only credit card or mobile payments will be accepted at these locations.
As concert-goers prepare for what promises to be an exciting series of performances, the MTR and event organizers are committed to ensuring a smooth experience for all attendees. With careful planning and cooperation, fans are set to enjoy a memorable time at the Kai Tak Sports Park.
