Mark Zuckerberg Celebrates Wife With Giant Roman Statue

The tech mogul revives tradition with statue of Priscilla Chan, making waves online

Mark Zuckerberg has recently made headlines with his extravagant tribute to his wife, Priscilla Chan, by commissioning a large sculpture resembling her. This monumental piece is not just any ordinary statue but pays homage to Roman traditions of honoring one’s spouse through artistic representation.

On August 13, Zuckerberg shared on Instagram the eye-catching statue alongside the caption, "Bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife." The sculpture, created by renowned artist Daniel Arsham, showcases Wang dressed elegantly, clad in flowing attire reminiscent of classic Roman depictions.

Priscilla Chan appears beside her effigy, wearing a soft pink robe adorned with white and blue detailing, sipping from a chic mug. The vibrant turquoise statue captures her likeness with remarkable detail, featuring an intriguing wind-blown silver outfit resembling angel wings.

Art enthusiasts and fans alike were drawn to the post, with many commenting positively on Zuckerberg's romantic gesture. One follower quipped, "Husbands everywhere are shaking,” highlighting the competitive sentiment this creative gift invoked among other partners.

Zuckerberg, 40, jested about his long-running idea of crafting the sculpture for Chan, 39. He noted on Instagram, "I’ve joked about making a sculpture of her for years, and when the opportunity to work with Arsham came up, I finally did it!"

Daniel Arsham, the artist behind this creative endeavor, has previously collaborated with high-profile brands such as Tiffany & Co. and Pokémon. Interestingly, the chosen materials for this sculpture reflect Arsham's distinctive style, appearing to be crafted from crystal and volcanic ash, reminiscent of his other artworks.

The sculpture has garnered significant attention, amassing over 170,000 likes shortly after being posted on Instagram. Chan humorously responded to the showcase by stating, "You can’t miss me!" encapsulating her delight with this grand gesture.

By bringing back this age-old Roman tradition—known for its deep-rooted appreciation for the values of loyalty and familial duty—Zuckerberg has sparked conversation about the relevance and romantic ideals of such practices today. Historically, these sculptures served not just as artistic declarations but as representations of virtues, showcasing the moral character and devotion of the women they depicted.

Throughout Roman history, the tradition among affluent families included commissioning statues to display their reverence and admiration for women, particularly wives. This practice emphasized familial loyalty, social duty, and the celebration of beauty, which remains relevant today as seen through Zuckerberg's lens.

The couple, who first crossed paths at Harvard University during 2003, have shared their lives with each other and their three children since then. They tied the knot in 2012, and since then, their relationship has flourished alongside their shared values and family commitments.

Zuckerberg’s recent post also aligns with their occasional presence at high-society events, and just last month, they were spotted enjoying themselves at the extravagant pre-wedding festivities of Indian billionaire Anant Ambani. During the celebration, Chan was seen admiring Ambani’s luxurious timepiece, drawing attention to their affinity for elegance and culture.

The exquisite statue beautifully captures not only Chan’s likeness but also encapsulates Facebook's founder's eternal affection for her. With this act, Zuckerberg has yet again showcased how personal expression through art can bridge historical traditions with contemporary relationships.

While the price of the commission remains undisclosed, the visible admiration it has generated is priceless. Social media platforms continue to shine a spotlight on Zuckerberg's unique approach to celebrating love and commitment, reviving age-old traditions for the modern world.

Indeed, Mark Zuckerberg’s grand gesture is likely to inspire many, reminding everyone of the enduring beauty of love expressed through dedicated artistic efforts. This bold move reflects not only personal sentiment but also creates ripples within conversations around romance and relationships today.
