Maricá Municipal Guard Tackles Domestic Threats And Violence

Recent operations highlight the urgent need for effective protective measures against domestic violence.

The Maricá Municipal Guard has stepped up its operations, responding to multiple incidents of domestic threats and violence, emphasizing the importance of public safety. A series of events over the weekend and the following days have brought the actions of the local guard to the forefront, culminating in arrests and enhanced support for affected individuals.

On the night of Sunday, October 23, 2023, officers from the Municipal Guard intervened at the city’s bus station. During the incident, they responded to reports of a man threatening and pursuing two women. The suspect, whose aggressive behavior stemmed from personal disputes involving his ex-partner, had confronted them earlier on Saturday and escalated on Sunday by attempting to intimidate them inside the bus. The frightened victims sought assistance from the guard just as the perpetrator began to approach them again.

The Municipal Guard team—comprised of officers Letícia, Jou, Guerra, and Lorena—quickly appraised the situation. They engaged the suspect, who resisted and entered combat with street residents before fleeing. Eventually, the team managed to apprehend him. During the search, they discovered he possessed a knife, qualifying as illegal possession of a weapon. Given the immediate threat, another unit was called for support, leading to the suspect's transfer to the 82nd Police Station for legal processing.

Despite the severity of this incident, the on-duty police delegate chose not to formally register the flagrant offense. This incident emphasizes the vulnerability of women facing intimidation and the urgency for law enforcement to act decisively to prevent potential tragedies, as highlighted by observers. "The occurrence highlights the vulnerability of women facing threats and the importance of the Municipal Guard’s quick actions to prevent potential tragedies," reported Jornal O DIA.

Following this incident, on Monday morning, October 24, municipal agents arrested another individual, F.V.G., for violating protective measures previously established against him. The arrest unfolded as the man attempted to force himself inside the home of his ex-partner, G.M.G., at about 6:50 AM. He had been banging on her window relentlessly, and when she opened the door under the assumption it was her mother, he barged inside, ignoring the protective order, which was meant to keep him away.

While visibly intoxicated and displaying aggressive behavior, F.V.G. claimed he wanted to see their child and spend the night there. Ignoring the protective order ensured his swift dismissal from the residence. Consumed by fear for their safety, the victim acted quickly, alerting the Grupamento Maria da Penha, who responded immediately to the location on Rua F within the Santa Paula housing estate.

Once on site, the Municipal Guard, supported by the Tactical Operations Team (ROMU), verified the presence of the aggressor and proceeded to arrest him. He was taken to the 82nd Police Station, where the police acknowledged the violation of the protective order, leading to his detention. From there, he was transferred to the Central of Flagrants at the 76th Police Station, where he awaits trial. The victim, understandably shaken, received psychological support and legal assistance as part of her recovery process. The protective order had previously been secured after he chased her and assaulted her on February 12, only underscoring the repeated threats she faced, as F.V.G. deliberately defied the law.

The Maricá Municipal Guard’s prompt actions showcase their commitment to community safety, particularly for those at risk of domestic violence. Just hours after the protective order arrest, the team continually upheld public safety norms. That afternoon, their collaboration with military police culminated successfully when they recaptured another perpetrator who had escaped from the 82nd Police Station.

The fugitive had fled the facility earlier, and law enforcement units coordinated efforts to locate and apprehend him. Various sources from nearby witnesses led them to the area of Rua Protásio Péres, where they successfully set up a containment perimeter, resulting in the swift capture of the escaped criminal. Once secured, he was transported back to the 82nd Police Station, reinforcing the importance of joint operations between different tiers of law enforcement.

The incidents serve as poignant reminders of the significant work local authorities are doing to protect vulnerable community members. The Municipal Guard's interventions highlight the urgent need for protective measures against domestic violence, serving not only to assist victims but also to instill greater public confidence in safety initiatives. Awareness and vigilance are key components of creating safer environments for all residents, especially women facing threats within their communities.
