Mariah Carey To Headline Unique Floating Concert At COP30

The pop icon will perform on the Rio Guamá as part of the ‘Amazônia Para Sempre’ festival aimed at promoting climate action.

Mariah Carey is set to perform as the headliner of the ‘Amazônia Para Sempre’ festival, coinciding with the COP30 climate conference, on September 17, 2025, in Belém do Pará. This groundbreaking event aims to raise awareness about climate issues through music, featuring Carey on a monumental floating stage shaped like the regional Victoria Régia flower.

Carey’s performance is notable not only for her star power but also for the unique setting of the concert—a 25-meter diameter stage suspended above the waters of the Rio Guamá. Part of Brazil’s effort to engage with global climate discussions, this concert aims to spotlight the urgency of climate action as world leaders gather for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP30, later this year.

During her interview on Globo’s program Fantástico, Carey expressed her excitement and apprehension about the event, saying, “I’m excited but a little scared because I’ll be out there on the river, and I don’t know what might come up from below.” Her comments reflect the novelty and potential challenges of performing on water, showcasing the blend of artistry and environmental consciousness.

Before Mariah takes the stage, local stars such as Joelma, Gaby Amarantos, and Dona Onete will perform, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Amazonian region. This collaboration between international and local artists highlights the festival’s goal to celebrate the Amazon and motivate action against climate change. Joelma, known as the queen of Calypso, will open the concert, setting the stage for what is expected to be a spectacular evening.

While the concert will not be accessible to the general public due to its private nature, it will be broadcast live across multiple platforms, including TV Globo, ensuring fans can still experience the magic of the event from afar.

The decision to host such an event during COP30 emphasizes the growing recognition of the connection between art, culture, and environmental advocacy. Notably, this appearance follows Carey’s significant concerts last year, including record-setting performances at Rock in Rio and events across Brazil.

The festival ‘Amazônia Para Sempre’ serves not only as entertainment but as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for climate action. It is organized by the same team behind Rock in Rio, indicating its scaled-up ambition to merge entertainment with serious social messages.

"The structure will be impressive, with 88 tons of equipment involved, alongside two barges supporting the stage," explained organizers, hinting at the logistical challenges of such an innovative setup. The concert is expected to be both visually stunning and musically memorable, with fans anticipating classic hits like "We Belong Together" and "Fantasy."

Mariah, who will also perform at The Town festival four days earlier, is known for her philanthropic efforts, including initiatives supporting underprivileged youth. This dual role as both performer and advocate aligns with the broader themes of community and responsibility being championed at the festival.

She remarked, “I’m anxious to see the people of Brazil again,” highlighting her warmth and connection with fans. Carey’s enthusiasm for local culture was evident as she attempted to engage with Brazilian traditions, jokingly expressing her desire to try local delicacies, saying, "I’m going to have some tacacá!"

Overall, the ‘Amazônia Para Sempre’ festival promises to be more than just a concert; it is poised to be a landmark event intertwining music, culture, and climate activism as it aims to spotlight the pressing issues facing the Amazon and our planet.
