The popular Italian series Mare Fuori is set to reach a global audience after Netflix secured international distribution rights through a new agreement with Beta Film. The show, produced by RAI, debuted on the streaming platform on April 20, 2025, allowing viewers to access all four seasons that have been released so far. In addition to the existing seasons, the deal includes two upcoming seasons of Mare Fuori and a prequel film titled Io sono Rosa Ricci, which is expected to hit Italian cinemas by the end of 2025.
Originally, Mare Fuori had already made its mark by being distributed in over 20 countries, including Germany on Disney+, Israel on HOT, and Latin America on HBO Max. Roberto Sessa, the producer from Picomedia, remarked on the uniqueness of this agreement, stating, "This is quite a unique deal. I can’t recall a global agreement of this magnitude made for a show that wasn’t specifically created for Netflix." This follows Netflix's earlier streaming of episodes in Italy back in 2021, which helped boost the show's popularity.
As excitement builds for the new seasons, Sessa also shared that production for the sixth season is set to begin in June 2025, with negotiations already underway with RAI for a potential seventh and eighth season. The prequel film Io sono Rosa Ricci, confirmed during the Giornate Professionali di Cinema in Sorrento last December, will focus on the character portrayed by Maria Esposito, a key figure in the series.
In a related development, casting is now open for the sixth season, targeting young female talent between the ages of 13 and 20 who are born and residing in Naples or the Campania region. According to CastingNews.eu, applicants should possess strong acting and singing skills, along with a notable stage presence. The casting calls will take place on April 29 and 30, 2025, and minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with valid identification.
Those selected will receive compensation for their participation and will be involved in filming in Naples during the spring and summer of 2025. This initiative aims to enrich the authenticity of the series by incorporating local talent, creating a unique opportunity for aspiring actresses.
Meanwhile, Lavazza has announced the renewal of its collaboration with Mare Fuori, aligning with its strategy to promote coffee culture and social inclusion. Following the success of the campaign "Un caffè per ricominciare," the brand will introduce the "Laboratori del Caffè" into the narrative of the series, designed by the Lavazza Training Center. These courses aim to convey the importance of coffee culture to both the characters and the audience.
In particular, the "Riviera di Chiaia" blend from Lavazza’s Tales of Italy Food Service line, inspired by Naples, will play a significant role in scenes set within the laboratory. Additionally, Lavazza Crema e Gusto will feature in a domestic consumption scene with one of the main actors, further integrating the brand into the storyline.
To promote this initiative, Lavazza has enlisted Giuseppe Pirozzi, known as Micciarella in the series, as the spokesperson for the courses through a social media toolkit. The partnership includes various promotional activities, such as a dedicated section on Lavazza's official website, branded merchandise for Mare Fuori, contests for fans to visit the set, and television advertisements. The campaign will see the spot "L’eccellenza è una scelta" airing on Rai 2 from March 26 to April 30, 2025, for six weeks.
The program will also involve Lavazza's Training Centers in Naples, Turin, Catania, and Rome, ensuring broad geographical reach. In 2024, the program engaged 55 beneficiaries in Italy, providing 150 hours of training and collaborating with four NGOs and partner organizations through 23 internships.
As Mare Fuori continues to grow in popularity both locally and internationally, the collaboration with Lavazza not only enhances the narrative of the series but also reinforces the brand's commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. With new seasons and projects on the horizon, fans of the show can look forward to more captivating stories and characters that resonate with the rich cultural backdrop of Naples.
