Mardi Gras 2025: Exciting Parades And Events Across Cities

Vicksburg, Asheville, and New Orleans prepare for vibrant celebrations and new security measures for revelers this year.

With Mardi Gras season revving up, cities across the United States are gearing up for vibrant parades and festivities, highlighted by elaborate floats, colorful costumes, and exciting local traditions. Planned celebrations include the renowned events taking place across Vicksburg, Asheville, Pensacola, and the iconic New Orleans, each showcasing its unique take on the festivity.

The 24th Annual Mardi Gras Parade, hosted by the Vicksburg Main Street Program, is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. This local celebration will bring together thousands who flock to downtown Vicksburg to enjoy the joyous atmosphere. According to the Vicksburg Main Street, “Join the thousands of people who come from all over to catch beads, dance, and cheer as our elaborate floats and excited participants venture down the parade route!” Interested krewes can reach out via email at [email protected] or by calling 601-634-4527 to participate.

Just one day later, on March 2, Asheville, North Carolina, will host its 18th annual Mardi Gras Parade, beginning at 3:05 p.m. at the corner of Short Coxe and Coxe Avenues. This year’s theme, "Animalia," invites attendees to don animal-inspired costumes, creating a lively and playful atmosphere. “Mardi Gras, which translates to 'Fat Tuesday,' is on March 4,” the article states. Revelers are encouraged to explore pre-parade events, including the meet-and-greet with the 2025 royalty, King Tom Good Heart Marshall and Queen Jill Bielewski, on March 1 at Green Man Brewery at 6 p.m. Closing the Saturday festivities is the procession featuring the royal couple scheduled to begin at Bear's Smokehouse BBQ at 5:30 p.m.

On the other hand, Pensacola’s 2025 Mardi Gras parades are drawing attention for their new safety measures. Mayor D.C. Reeves announced tougher measures to curb unauthorized parking along the parade route this year. “We don't want an empty vehicle or a vehicle right next to or really inside the barricades,” Reeves emphasized, underscoring the need for enhanced security following past incidents. The Krewe of Lafitte Illuminated Parade is set for Feb. 28, starting at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Pensacola Grand Mardi Gras Parade on March 1 at 2 p.m. Attendees are reminded to beware of parking restrictions as the roads will close three hours prior to the events.

Meanwhile, Mardi Gras tradition continues unabated in New Orleans, known as the heart of the festivities. With the official Mardi Gras day falling on March 4, the city will host numerous parades leading up to the ‘Fat Tuesday’ celebration. On March 1 alone, for example, the Krewe of Iris will step off at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Krewe of Tucks at noon, and the Krewe of Endymion at 4:00 p.m. According to reports, this year’s festivities will see various themed parades and initiatives celebrating the rich cultural fabric of Nueva Orleans.

Security measures are also firmly established for the Baton Rouge events over the weekend. The Krewe of Southdowns and Spanish Town parades expect to attract large crowds, prompting authorities to encourage safety precautions like ensuring children wear visible attire and sticking together.

With the varied offerings for this year’s Mardi Gras, locals and visitors alike can partake or watch as communities celebrate their vibrant heritage. From Asheville’s all-inclusive family gatherings to Vicksburg’s jubilant floats and New Orleans' deep-rooted traditions, each city’s events showcase the regional uniqueness of Mardi Gras.

From music to parades and themed events, Mardi Gras 2025 promises unforgettable experiences around every corner. Those interested are urged to participate actively, whether dressing up in costumes or volunteering to help facilitate these splendid displays of culture and community spirit. It’s not just about beads and festivities; it’s about bringing friends and families together to celebrate life and heritage during this colorful season.
