Marc Lopez Joins Forces With Jasmine Paolini In Stuttgart

New partnership aims to elevate Paolini's game ahead of clay court season

In a significant turn of events in the world of tennis, Marc Lopez, the former coach of Rafael Nadal, has joined forces with Italian tennis star Jasmine Paolini. This partnership comes after Paolini's long-standing relationship with coach Renzo Furlan, who has been instrumental in her development as a player. The news was confirmed by tennis insider Sofya Tartakova, known for her insights into the sport.

Paolini expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Furlan, stating, "Renzo is such an important part of my growth, both as a player and as a person." Despite Furlan being named the WTA Coach of the Year 2024, Paolini has opted for a fresh start with Lopez, who has a wealth of experience from his time coaching Nadal towards the end of the Spanish superstar's illustrious career.

Lopez boasts an impressive resume, having won the doubles title at the Roland Garros and reaching No. 3 in the doubles rankings. His experience and success in the sport are expected to bring a new dynamic to Paolini's game. The pair will work together at least until the end of the clay court season, with the possibility of extending their collaboration beyond the prestigious Roland Garros tournament.

As Paolini prepares to defend her final appearance at Roland Garros, the appointment of Lopez is seen as a strategic move to elevate her performance on the court. Fans and tennis experts are eagerly anticipating how this new partnership will unfold and whether Lopez can provide the winning formula Paolini needs to succeed on the professional circuit.

Paolini's first test under Lopez's guidance will come at the WTA 500 tournament in Stuttgart, where she is seeded fifth. Starting on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Paolini will face German player Eva Lys in the opening round. The two players have met earlier this year in Dubai, where Paolini secured a convincing victory with a score of 6-2, 7-5.

"I come from a very long relationship with Renzo, so in my opinion, with Marc, we started well with a lot of calmness. We are getting to know each other and we'll see how it goes," Paolini shared during her time at the WTA Stuttgart. She further mentioned that she was looking for someone who could inspire her, and with the help of her agent, they arrived at the decision to partner with Lopez.

Paolini acknowledged Lopez's experience at the top level of the sport, even if he may not have extensive head coaching experience. This fresh start comes at a crucial time as Paolini aims to prepare for the upcoming Rome-Paris double, which is a significant challenge for any player.

The Stuttgart tournament will feature nearly all of the world's top players, including Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek, along with four other players currently ranked in the top ten. The competition will be fierce, and Paolini's performance will be closely watched as she embarks on this new chapter in her career.

In addition to Paolini's match, four other Italian tennis players are also scheduled to compete on April 15, 2025. Camilla Rosatello will be playing in the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen against American Alycia Parks, while Luciano Darderi and Flavio Cobolli will be participating in the ATP 500 tournament in Monaco.

Darderi will face the seventh seed Jiri Lehecka in his opening match, while Cobolli will take on Alexander Shevchenko. These matches are set to commence early in the day, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit of Italian tennis.

As the tennis world gears up for an exciting week of matches, all eyes will be on Paolini as she takes to the court in Stuttgart. The anticipation surrounding her debut with Lopez adds an extra layer of excitement to her performance. Will this new partnership yield the results that Paolini hopes for? Only time will tell as the clay court season unfolds.
