Initially igniting near FM-1725 and Alsobrooks Road in San Jacinto County, the fire has spread perilously close to the Montgomery County line, prompting mandatory evacuations in several areas. Around 900 homes currently lie within the evacuation zone, and officials are urging residents to evacuate immediately to ensure their safety.
Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough issued a sober warning, stating, "This thing is not going away for awhile. These winds and these gusts are exacerbating the situation and it continues to keep moving forward." In an additional effort to support those affected, the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management also ensured that animal shelters were ready, with locations available at Bull Sallas Park and Caney Creek Cowboy Church. Judge Keough stressed that there should be no reason for residents to stay behind and risk their safety, as help is available to transport them and their animals to safety.
Furthermore, Cleveland ISD schools remain closed on March 20, out of an abundance of caution related to the wildfire.
