Manchester United Targets Geovany Quenda With £50 Million Offer

The Red Devils pursue the teenage sensation following Rúben Amorim's managerial change

Manchester United is intensifying its pursuit of the talented 17-year-old winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon, indicated by reports of a substantial £50 million transfer bid being prepared for the young player. The Red Devils, under the guidance of their new manager Rúben Amorim, who recently transitioned from his role at Sporting, aim to bring Quenda to Old Trafford, and initial discussions have already taken place.

Quenda, who has impressed this season, made his senior debut with Sporting after joining the club when he was just 13 years old. He has quickly become part of the first team, racking up 19 appearances across all competitions and contributing with two goals and two assists. His performances have sparked interest not just from Manchester United but also from rival clubs including PSG and Manchester City, each eyeing the player as part of their respective rebuilding strategies.

Rúben Amorim's admiration for Quenda is evident, with the manager having previously predicted the forward would have a "spectacular future". This endorsement from his former manager serves to heighten expectations surrounding the young star's potential move to one of the most prestigious clubs in England.

According to A Bola, United's proposed package is reported to be around €60 million (£50 million), which would include additional bonuses based on Quenda's performance and the team's success. This bid falls below his release clause of approximately €100 million (£84 million), but it appears Sporting may entertain negotiations considering United's serious interest.

Since signing a new contract with Sporting just this past September, Quenda's deal runs until 2027, and his release clause escalated from €45 million (£38 million) to €100 million (£84 million). Sporting's management is aware of Manchester United's advances and is expected to engage in discussions to explore this opportunity.

Notably, Quenda is unable to join any new club until the summer because he turns 18 only in April 2025, providing each side the time to come to terms without rushing the process. Amorim has assured he will refrain from heavy recruitment from Sporting until the season’s end, allowing him to respect his previous club.

Geovany Quenda's roots trace back to Guinea-Bissau, where he was born before his family relocated to Portugal. His youth career kicked off at Damaiense, and he had stints at Benfica before joining Sporting. Despite being young, Quenda's talent has already made him the youngest goalscorer in Sporting's history, as he scored on his debut against Porto.

Through the lens of recent scouting reports and data, Quenda is earning comparisons to renowned players like Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku for his dribbling and pace. Such displays on the pitch have marked him as not only one to watch but potentially one of the brightest prospects of the upcoming generation.

His progress has not gone unnoticed on the national level either, as Quenda has been called up to represent Portugal on various occasions, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure as well as against opponents at the highest level.

Given the competition from elite clubs willing to pay top dollar for Quenda, Manchester United faces the challenge of crafting both a compelling financial offer and creating the right sporting environment to entice him to join. With quasi-regular drops from other potential suitors like Newcastle United, the stakes are increasing.

Throughout his rising career, Quenda’s technical skills and versatility make him capable of playing multiple positions, adding depth to any squad. His adorable style has already started to impress fans and analysts alike, and if he continues on this path, his transfer could establish him as one of the future stars of football.

The impending transfer window looms as teams begin plotting their next moves, but whether Manchester United will successfully secure Quenda’s signature remains to be seen. The Red Devils have shown intent, and with discussions underway, fans will be eager to see how this story develops.
