Man Charged With Murdering Croydon Woman Jamelatu Tsiwah

Investigation reveals neck compression as cause of death, with community urged to assist police inquiries.

A murder investigation is underway following the tragic death of Jamelatu Tsiwah, 31, earlier this week, marking another unsettling event for the Croydon community.

On January 20, emergency services were called to Bensham Lane at approximately 19:00 after reports surfaced of an unresponsive woman. Despite the swift response from officers and paramedics, Tsiwah was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family is currently receiving support from specialist officers during this harrowing time.

Authorities have charged 21-year-old Larry Nimoh with murder and attempted murder. Nimoh, who had ties to Tsiwah, is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on January 23. Notably, police confirmed there is no broader threat to the community, as Nimoh was known to the victim. "Today’s update will bring some reassurance to Jamelatu’s family and the community," said Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila, who is leading the investigation.

The reason behind Tsiwah's untimely death was determined to be neck compression, as indicated by the special post-mortem examination. Police have been active in the area, gathering evidence and appealing for information. Residents are encouraged to come forward if they witnessed any suspicious activity around Bensham Road on the evening of the incident between 18:00 and 19:00. "I would like to hear from you if you think you may have seen something suspicious taking place, or if you saw someone fleeing from the property on Bensham Lane. Any information is important to us and we take every report and reflect it in our investigation," Gammampila added.

Another man, also aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of murder but has since been released on bail pending continued investigations. The police are leaving no stone unturned as they work to piece together the circumstances surrounding Tsiwah’s death, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation during this time.

The investigation remains sensitive, as Jamelatu Tsiwah’s family navigates their loss. Police have reiterated their commitment to providing assistance to the bereaved family, highlighting their cooperation with the authorities.

This incident has once again raised concerns about community safety. Local residents have expressed their grief and anger over the situation. It's imperative for the community to unite during such distressing times and support one another as more details emerge. The police have reassured everyone of their transparency and openness throughout the investigation.

Anyone with information related to the case should contact the police at 101, quoting CAD 5952/20Jan, helping authorities shine light on this unfortunate event.

This investigation reflects not only the personal tragedy of Tsiwah's death but also the broader challenges facing communities grappling with violent crime. Authorities are hopeful for swift justice for Tsiwah's family.
