Authorities have cracked down on drug production operations, dismantling a substantial mefedron laboratory located in Imielin, Poland. Officers from the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBŚP) executed the bust, seizing over 50 kilograms of the illegal substance, valued at approximately 2 million PLN (around $500,000). This operation has been reported as part of broader efforts to combat synthetic drug production and trafficking across the region.
The CBŚP, which has been closely monitoring the activities of organized crime groups for several months, identified the location of the illegal laboratory following extensive surveillance. According to statements from the agency, this operation was not only significant due to the amount of drugs seized but also as it disrupted extensive networks which have emerged around the production of psychotropic substances.
The raid, conducted over several days, saw a coordinated effort with local fire department personnel who assisted the police officers. The hazardous chemical environment posed substantial risks, as toxic fumes were present during the police's preliminary activities. "The operation was complicated due to dangerous fumes; we required the fire department's support to secure the site," shared Krzysztof Wrześniowski, the spokesperson for the CBŚP, outlining the challenges faced by the investigative teams when entering the laboratory.
At the site, authorities discovered not only the large quantities of finished mefedron but also several tons of chemical precursors capable of yielding even more drugs, with estimations claiming over 600 kilograms might have been produced during the laboratory's four-month operation. This figure translates to a street value exceeding 24 million PLN, highlighting the scale of the drug network operating within the region. "The notes found at the scene indicate the scale of production, confirming the group's operations were extensive," Wrześniowski remarked, illustrating the organized nature of the operation.
Two individuals identified as 'chemists' were apprehended on-site during the raid and have since been charged with the production and distribution of considerable amounts of psychotropic substances. Following their arrest, local authorities have placed them under preventive detainment, with the court issuing temporary custody for three months. Notably, assets totaling 100,000 PLN linked to these individuals have also been secured to cover future penalties arising from the illegal activities.
