Mahindra is gearing up to launch facelifted versions of its popular SUVs, the Thar and XUV700, in 2026. According to reports from Autocar India, these updates are part of the company’s strategy to enhance its lineup following the success of its new generation vehicles in the post-COVID era.
The Mahindra Thar, which made its debut in 2020, will receive significant styling changes inspired by its five-door sibling, the Thar Roxx. The facelifted model, internally codenamed W515, is expected to feature a new front grille with vertical slats resembling the 'six-pack grille' of the Roxx. Additional updates will include C-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), redesigned bumpers, and new alloy wheels, contributing to a more rugged appearance.
Inside, the Thar facelift is anticipated to offer a more premium experience with features such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and possibly a sunroof for the hardtop variants. The steering wheel design will also be updated to enhance usability, borrowing elements from the Roxx.
Under the hood, the Thar will retain its existing engine options, which include a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 152 horsepower, alongside two diesel variants: a 1.5-litre engine generating 119 horsepower and a 2.2-litre engine offering 132 horsepower. Transmission options will continue to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
Meanwhile, the XUV700, launched in 2021, is also set for a facelift, codenamed W616. This model will adopt a more modern and aggressive design, drawing inspiration from Mahindra's latest electric vehicles, including the BE 6 and XEV 9e. The facelift is expected to feature connected LED headlights, a new grille design, and squared-off wheel arches that enhance its sporty look.
Inside, the XUV700 facelift aims to provide a more refined experience, possibly incorporating a triple-screen setup that includes a larger infotainment touchscreen, a digital instrument console, and a dedicated display for the co-driver. Enhanced safety features, including an upgraded Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), are also anticipated.
Powertrain options for the XUV700 will remain largely unchanged, featuring a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 200 horsepower and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine with outputs ranging from 155 to 185 horsepower, depending on the variant. Both engines will offer a choice between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The facelifted versions of the Thar and XUV700 are expected to be priced higher than their predecessors due to the extensive updates and additional features. This move aligns with Mahindra's strategy to maintain its competitive edge in India's rapidly evolving SUV market, where consumer preferences are shifting toward more feature-rich and stylish vehicles.
