Madrid Hosts III Fiesta De La Resurrección In Honor Of Pope Francisco

The event celebrates life and faith while remembering the late pontiff with music and prayer.

Madrid is set to host the III Fiesta de la Resurrección on Saturday, April 26, 2025, a vibrant celebration organized by the Asociación Católica de Propagandistas (ACdP). This year, the event takes on a somber yet celebratory tone as it will serve as a prayer for Pope Francisco, who passed away on April 21 at the age of 88. The festivities will unfold at the iconic Plaza de Cibeles, starting at 18:30 hours, drawing an expected crowd of around 70,000 attendees.

The ACdP expressed profound sorrow over the Pope’s death, stating, "We feel a sense of ecclesial orphanhood due to the loss of the Father and Shepherd who guided the Church during these turbulent times. We offer our prayers and sacrifices for the eternal rest of his soul and intercede for him before the God of Mercy, Justice, and Hope to whom he dedicated his life without rest." This sentiment underscores the event's dual purpose: to honor the late pontiff while celebrating the resurrection of Christ.

Artists scheduled to perform include popular names such as Beret, Cali & El Dandee, Kike Pavón, Siempre Así, Hakuna Group Music, and DJ El Pulpo. The event will be hosted by Javi Nieves, a well-known radio personality, who aims to create an atmosphere filled with joy and reflection. The lineup promises a mix of musical styles, catering to diverse tastes, and is designed to uplift the spirits of attendees.

Last year’s edition of the Fiesta de la Resurrección drew over 70,000 participants, and this year, the organizers are hopeful for similar attendance despite the recent tragedy. The ACdP has emphasized that the festival will be a "great call to prayer," inviting people from all walks of life to join in the celebration of life through music.

In a previous address, Pope Francisco remarked on the significance of music in expressing joy, stating, "It is not misguided to respond with music to the immense gift that the Lord gave us with His Resurrection. Saint Augustine, commenting on a psalm, said that with our song, we give voice to the heart, for otherwise, it would be difficult to express joy." His words resonate deeply this year as attendees are encouraged to sing and celebrate, fulfilling his request to "Please, if those who sing pray twice, don’t forget to sing for me. And, onward: Sing and walk!"

As the festival approaches, city officials are preparing for significant traffic disruptions in the area surrounding Plaza de Cibeles. Traffic closures are expected from 15:30 to 23:30 hours, affecting major thoroughfares such as Paseo de Recoletos, Paseo del Prado, Calle Alcalá, and Gran Vía. The municipality has advised attendees to utilize public transportation, as many bus routes will be altered due to the event.

For those planning to attend, access points will be located along Paseo de Recoletos and Paseo del Prado, with provisions made for individuals with reduced mobility through Calle Alcalá. The entrance is free, but attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good spot as the plaza fills up quickly.

The Fiesta de la Resurrección is more than just a concert; it is a communal gathering that reflects the spirit of hope and renewal, especially poignant in light of recent events. The ACdP aims to create a space where people can come together to celebrate life, faith, and the legacy of Pope Francisco.

In preparation for the festival, 152 public restrooms, including 21 adapted facilities for individuals with disabilities, will be set up along Paseo de Recoletos. This logistical consideration ensures that attendees can enjoy the festivities comfortably.

With performances scheduled to begin at 18:30, the excitement is palpable as artists prepare to take the stage. Beret, known for his heartfelt lyrics and engaging performances, is particularly eager to connect with fans, promising a unique show that includes both new songs and beloved hits. Similarly, the group Hakuna, which has become synonymous with the event, emphasizes their mission of transforming music into a form of prayer and art.

As the sun sets over Madrid, the Plaza de Cibeles will come alive with music and the voices of thousands, all united in a celebration of faith and remembrance. The III Fiesta de la Resurrección promises to be a memorable evening, blending joy, reflection, and a shared sense of community in honor of Pope Francisco’s enduring legacy.
