M25 Closed After Lorry Crash Causes Delays

Recovery efforts continue following significant traffic disruptions as repair work is scheduled.

Motorists traveling on the M25 faced significant disruptions following a lorry crash late Sunday night, leading to multiple lane closures and extensive delays. The M25 was closed anti-clockwise between Junction 10 for the A3 and Junction 8 for Reigate, effectively beginning at approximately 11:50 PM on January 5.

The incident involved a lorry colliding with the central reservation and coming to rest sideways across the carriageway. Thankfully, Surrey Police reported no injuries, stating, "The driver of the lorry has not sustained any injuries." Emergency services, including Surrey Fire and Rescue, quickly responded to the scene.

With recovery operations completed overnight, work began to assess the road surface for damages. National Highways indicated concern over the condition of the roadway, with repair efforts dictated by the outcome of this assessment. To manage the fallout, diversions have been established, directing traffic off the motorway.

Drivers are encouraged to utilize the diversion route, clearly marked by the hollow square symbol. This alternative path begins at Junction 10 and takes the A3 northbound toward London, exiting at Tolworth. The route then continues onto the A240 Tolworth Interchange before proceeding through Reigate via the A24 and A217.

Unfortunately, the situation on the M25 led to severe delays, with reports indicating queue lengths of about two miles and wait times of up to 40 minutes. Social media highlighted the chaos, with one user claiming, "This section of the M25 now resembles a huge car park." National Highways has advised motorists, "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra time for your journeys. Plan ahead, you may wish to reroute or even delay your trip."

Adding to the complications, National Highways confirmed there will be a full closure scheduled for 11 AM on Monday. This closure is anticipated to last for up to five hours to allow for resurfacing work, reinforcing the need for caution and alternative planning for those traveling along the M25.

Despite the hope for reopening by the evening rush hour, the urgency of resurfacing highlights the necessity for continued monitoring and adjustments to traffic management as the situation develops. A spokesperson for National Highways stated, "We are working diligently to fully reopen the road by this evening's rush hour," pledging to provide updates as they become available.

Traffic disruptions compounded by overnight snowfall have been extensively reported across various parts of the UK, with many major routes facing similar issues. The weather conditions have exacerbated already challenging travel circumstances, leading to calls from authorities for caution and preparation among road users.

Motorists are advised repeatedly to seek alternate routes where possible and allow additional time for their journeys. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of travel, especially following adverse weather conditions.

Throughout this ordeal, Surrey Police and other agencies continue to monitor the situation closely, reminding drivers to remain vigilant and patient as recovery and resurfacing efforts proceed. With disruption expected to linger, commuters must remain informed and agile, adapting their travel plans as the hours go by sheokingessenger all through this challenging time.
