Lupita D’Alessio Hospitalized, Rescheduling Concerts Amid Health Concerns

The beloved Mexican singer grapples with health issues, leading to cancellations and a rescheduled farewell tour.

Lupita D'Alessio, the beloved Mexican singer known as "La Leona Dormida," has been hospitalized due to a viral infection, prompting concerns among her fans and the cancellation of her much-anticipated concerts this weekend. The news broke on Friday, March 21, 2025, when prominent television journalist Ricardo Manjarrez confirmed her condition on the show "Ventaneando."

According to reports, D'Alessio was hospitalized in Mexico City after experiencing complications from a viral illness, which her doctor advised would prevent her from performing. "Está hospitalizada, está bien, está estable. Con esta temporada, con estos calores y fríos, le dio un asunto viral. El doctor le dijo que no es recomendable que cante el día de hoy," Manjarrez stated, reflecting the doctor’s recommendations against any public performances for the time being.

Initially, the concerts scheduled for Friday, March 21, and Saturday, March 22, at La Maraka in Mexico City, have been rescheduled to the following weekend, with the new dates set for March 28 and 29, 2025. The announcement came from her management team BOBO Producciones, who communicated in a statement: "Les informamos que por cuestiones de salud, las presentaciones de Lupita D’Alessio programadas para el 21 y 22 de marzo en La Maraka se reprogramarán." Fans who had purchased tickets for the original dates were reassured that their tickets would still be valid for the new performance dates.

D'Alessio’s hospitalization comes as a shock, especially as she just celebrated her 71st birthday earlier this month. Her recent health struggles include facing the need for a lifestyle change in 2011 due to the risk of developing pulmonary emphysema. Back in 2018, she battled an episode of influenza, which further complicated her wellbeing. Most recently, in October 2023, the emotional toll from her son Ernesto's divorce resulted in a stomach ulcer that required medical attention.

In light of these challenges, D'Alessio made the decision to relocate to Cancún, Quintana Roo, where she hoped for a healthier environment conducive to her respiratory troubles and thyroid issues. Nevertheless, traveling back to the high altitude of Mexico City often leads to respiratory complications, which have now been exacerbated by the recent viral infection. As her son Jorge D'Alessio mentioned, adapting to the climate of the capital city has been particularly tough on her.

Despite the recent health set back, D'Alessio is looking forward to returning to the stage for her farewell tour titled Gracias, which has seen her traveling across various cities in Mexico. Fans can look forward to a special appearance as she has announced a free concert scheduled for May 10, 2025, in the Zocalo to celebrate Mother's Day. "Estoy sumamente agradecida y lo del Zocalo me tiene muy emocionada," said D'Alessio during a recent interview about her upcoming performance in the heart of Mexico City, promising to offer her greatest hits to those who may not have the opportunity to see her otherwise.

As the situation unfolds, her fans remain hopeful for her swift recovery. The rescheduling of her concerts has sparked an outpouring of support on social media, encouraging D'Alessio during this time. The public's dedication is evident, as her team expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her followers, assuring the artist that she will return to the stage as soon as she is able.

In these challenging times, the story of Lupita D'Alessio reflects not only her struggles but also the undying love and support from her loyal fans. As they await her comeback, the warmth of her music and the spirit of her performances will surely continue to resonate in their hearts until her return.
