Lula Declares Full Recovery At 45th PT Anniversary

President assures supporters of his health after recent medical evaluations and past health scares.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reassured his supporters about his health on Saturday, February 22, 2025, during the 45th anniversary celebration of the Workers' Party (PT) held at Pier Mauá, Rio de Janeiro. Lula confirmed his complete recovery after undergoing several routine tests just two days earlier.

"Lulinha está 100% curado da cabeça. Cabeça nova, cabeça limpa," declared President Lula with a smile during his speech to approximately 3,000 party militants. This statement marks a notable reassurance following health concerns raised after he suffered a serious head injury last year.

On Thursday, February 20, Lula underwent blood tests and imaging scans at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital, which were intended to evaluate the effects of the injury he incurred from slipping and hitting his head last December. The medical report confirmed, "all tests conducted were normal," according to cardiologist Roberto Kalil Filho, Lula’s personal physician. Kalil emphasized the thorough nature of the evaluations, noting they included both tomography and resonance imaging.

During his address, Lula reflected humorously on his ordeal, saying, "I think it will be very difficult for any 40-year-old to have the health and quality of health I have." The event was more than just about health; it was also strategically important for the PT, aiming to rally support amid challenges facing the party.

Lula recounted the harrowing details of the accident from last year when he fell at his official residence, resulting in severe bleeding between his brain and the surrounding membranes. Medical professionals informed him at the time of the possibility of entering a coma, emphasizing how precarious his situation was. "Chegaram a dizer que eu poderia morrer por causa disso e, graças a Deus, ontem eu fui fazer exame e Lulinha está 100% curado da cabeça," he told the audience, recalling the delicate nature of those subsequent days.

The gathering held significant political weight, serving as both a celebration and reaffirmation of Lula's leadership. He told his supporters, "I want to say to those who think they can destroy the PT and the integrity of one man, I am more alive and stronger than ever. Anyone who wants to defeat us will have to go where we are most adept at fighting, which is on the streets, talking with men and women. We did not come temporarily – we came to change the history of Brazil."

The enthusiastic reception of Lula's words and the joyful atmosphere at the event demonstrated the strong backing he enjoys within the party. Supporters expressed relief and gratitude for his recovery, creating palpable energy among party members. It signified not just reassurance about his health but also underscored Lula's resilience amid adversity.

Overall, find reassurance and hope mirrored the larger narrative of political determination and recovery following significant personal challenges. Lula’s return to the political forefront addresses the health concerns of his supporters and reinforces his position as a formidable force within Brazilian politics.
