Lukas Kwasniok To Leave SC Paderborn At Season's End

Coach expresses gratitude as Paderborn eyes Bundesliga promotion with five games remaining

In a significant development for the club, SC Paderborn announced on April 15, 2025, that head coach Lukas Kwasniok will part ways with the team at the end of the current season. This decision, reached in mutual consent, provides clarity for both the club and Kwasniok as they prepare for the future.

Kwasniok, who has been at the helm since the 2021/22 season, expressed gratitude for his time at Paderborn, stating, "The club and all the people associated with it have grown very dear to me over the past almost four years. The club gave me the opportunity to prove myself in the 2. Bundesliga for the first time and supported me at every moment." His departure comes as Paderborn remains in contention for promotion to the Bundesliga, currently sitting in seventh place with 45 points, just two points shy of the promotion-relegation playoff spot.

Benjamin Weber, the club's sporting director, highlighted Kwasniok's contributions, noting, "Lukas's technical competence and great commitment have significantly contributed to the positive results of the seasons." Under Kwasniok's leadership, Paderborn has consistently performed well, achieving sixth place in the 2022/2023 season and seventh place in both the 2021/2022 and 2023/2024 seasons, each time accumulating over 50 points.

The decision to part ways was made to ensure both parties have the necessary planning security moving forward. Kwasniok's focus now shifts entirely to the remaining five matches of the season, where he hopes to lead the team to realize their promotion dreams. "But now the full focus is on the remaining five games, in which we want to make our dream come true," Kwasniok stated.

As the season draws to a close, Paderborn's upcoming matches will be crucial. They are set to face FC Nuremberg on April 19, 2025, in what promises to be an intense match as they vie for a higher position in the standings. With the stakes high and only a few games left, the team is determined to capitalize on their opportunity for elevation to the Bundesliga.

With Kwasniok's departure confirmed, the search for a new head coach is already underway, and speculation is rife about potential candidates. Kwasniok has been linked with several Bundesliga clubs, indicating his desire to continue coaching at a higher level.

In the meantime, the focus remains on the pitch as SC Paderborn aims to finish the season strong and potentially secure a spot in the Bundesliga for the next campaign. The excitement surrounding the team is palpable, and fans are eager to see how the final matches unfold.
