Lucknow Super Giants Triumph Over Sunrisers Hyderabad

Nicholas Pooran shines with explosive 70 as LSG chases down 190

In a high-octane contest at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) emerged victorious against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 7 of IPL 2025 on March 27, 2025. After being invited to bat first, SRH set a competitive total of 190 runs. However, LSG chased down the target with remarkable ease, finishing at 193 for 5 in just 16.1 overs, marking one of the fastest successful 190+ chases in IPL history.

Shardul Thakur was the standout performer for LSG, claiming 4 wickets for 34 runs. His match-defining spell included the crucial dismissals of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan in consecutive deliveries, breaking the rhythm of SRH's innings early on. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran's explosive batting stole the show, as he smashed a whirlwind 70 runs off just 26 balls, hitting 6 fours and 6 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 269.23.

SRH's innings began with promise, as Travis Head played a blistering knock of 47 runs off 28 balls, and Aniket Verma contributed a quickfire 36 off just 13 deliveries. Despite these efforts, SRH could only manage 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Thakur's early breakthroughs and tight bowling from the LSG attack proved critical in keeping SRH's total in check.

In response, LSG's chase was powered by Pooran and Mitchell Marsh, who formed a formidable partnership. Marsh added a solid 52 runs off 31 balls, and together, they put on a match-winning 116 runs for the second wicket. Pooran's innings was particularly electrifying; he reached his fifty in just 18 balls, the fastest of the season so far, and his aggressive batting shifted the momentum decisively in LSG's favor.

Even after losing Aiden Markram early in their innings, LSG surged ahead, with Pooran and Marsh dismantling the SRH bowling attack. Pooran's assault included massive hits over the square boundary and a series of boundaries that left SRH struggling to contain the onslaught. He didn't spare even Pat Cummins, hitting two fours off his first over, and continued to pile on the runs throughout the powerplay.

Eventually, Pooran's innings came to an end when Cummins trapped him in front of the wickets in the ninth over. However, Marsh continued to anchor the innings, reaching his half-century and ensuring that LSG remained firmly in control of the chase. Abdul Samad provided valuable support towards the end, finishing with 22 runs off just 8 balls, guiding LSG home comfortably.

For SRH, despite the loss, Travis Head's innings showcased his attacking prowess, and Aniket Verma's cameo added excitement to their innings. However, the team struggled to recover after the early blows delivered by Thakur.

Shardul Thakur was named the Man of the Match for his exceptional performance, which included vital wickets that turned the tide in favor of LSG. His ability to break partnerships and keep the scoring in check was instrumental in the outcome of the match.

As the IPL season progresses, LSG's victory over SRH not only boosts their morale but also sets a high standard for their upcoming matches. The next match in the IPL will see Chennai Super Kings take on Royal Challengers Bangalore, scheduled for March 28, 2025, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, starting at 7:30 PM IST.
