Loveyapa Struggles At Box Office On Opening Day

Despite high expectations, the romantic drama fails to impress, earning only Rs. 1.02 Cr against tough competition.

Loveyapa, the much-anticipated debut film of Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan, is off to a rocky start at the box office. Released on January 7, 2025, the film opened just as the Valentine week commenced, aiming to capture the romantic market. Yet, early reports indicate the film is struggling significantly.

Many had eagerly awaited the film due to its lead actors, the children of two iconic Bollywood stars, Sridevi and Aamir Khan. Despite their prior experiences on OTT platforms, this marked their official entry onto the big screen, which heightened the excitement surrounding its release. Unfortunately, the numbers tell a different story.

According to early updates from Sacnilk, Loveyapa has managed to pull in only Rs. 1.02 Cr by the evening of its opening day. This figure starkly contrasts the performance of its competitor, Himesh Reshammiya’s Badass Ravikumar, which grossed Rs. 1.85 Cr over the same period. Each movie debuted on the same day, making for stiff competition.

The low occupancy rate—just 7.49% for Loveyapa—adds to the concerns about its reception among viewers. Industry insiders suggest the film might not even reach the Rs. 1.5 Cr mark by the end of the day. Should this happen, Loveyapa would unfortunately claim the title of the lowest opening film of 2025, overtaking Azaad, the debut film of Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani.

Loveyapa, helmed by director Advait Chandan, dives deep narratively, exploring the complications of relationships stemming from a simple phone mix-up. The plot twists through hidden truths, challenging the couple at the story's heart. The film is produced by Boney Kapoor along with Aamir Khan, Pradeep Ranganathan, and Madhu Mantena under the banners of Phantom Studios and AGS Entertainment.

Given its considerable budget, estimated at around Rs. 50 Cr, the stakes are high for Loveyapa. It requires not only strong opening numbers but also sustained interest from audiences to recover its costs. The initial day’s disappointing collection raises questions about its viability moving forward.

The anticipation for the film was reinforced by the star power attached to its leads. Still, box office analysts are closely monitoring the weekend's shifts to gauge if public sentiment may change after the opening day. Will the audience rally behind Loveyapa, or will it continue to struggle against more prominent competitors? The coming days will certainly reveal the film's fate.
