Lords Of The Fallen 2.0 Update Launches With Free Friend Pass

The major update enhances co-op gameplay and introduces shared progression features.

CI Games has officially launched the highly anticipated Version 2.0 update for their action RPG, Lords of the Fallen, on April 17, 2025. This update introduces a wealth of new features aimed at enhancing the gaming experience, including a free Friend's Pass, shared progression co-op, and significant improvements to combat and movement mechanics.

Since its release in late 2023, Lords of the Fallen has garnered a dedicated fan base, selling over one million copies within its first ten days. The game has received more than 50 updates to date, reflecting the developers' commitment to refining the gameplay based on community feedback. Marek Tyminski, CEO of CI Games, described Version 2.0 as "the definitive edition of Lords of the Fallen and contains 50+ post-launch updates," emphasizing the transformative nature of this latest release.

One of the standout features of the 2.0 update is the introduction of the Free Friend's Pass. This innovative system allows players to invite friends who do not own the game to join them in online co-op. Players using the Friend's Pass can experience the entire campaign alongside their friends while retaining all character progress and loot. However, it is important to note that only the host retains world progression, such as unlocked areas and quest progress.

The Friend's Pass is available across all platforms, including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows Store. Players can also enjoy the benefits of cross-play through password matchmaking, allowing friends to connect regardless of their chosen platform.

In addition to the Friend's Pass, the update introduces Shared Progression Co-op, where both players save all mainline story progress as long as they are on the same New Game playthrough and have defeated a similar number of bosses. This feature enhances the co-op experience, allowing players to revive each other and collect 100% vigor and loot. The combat system has also been refined, with improved weapon responsiveness, smoother animations, and enhanced audio feedback that immerses players deeper into the action.

The character creator has received a significant overhaul, offering more diverse facial options, textures, and body shapes for both male and female avatars. A dedicated jump button has been added, providing greater control during platforming sections, while the user interface has been modernized for easier navigation. Additionally, a revamped tutorial and guidebook have been implemented to help new players acclimate to the game's mechanics.

Despite the excitement surrounding the update, there has been a temporary delay for the Steam version due to a technical issue. As of now, the update is live on all other platforms, and CI Games is diligently working to resolve the issue for Steam users.

To celebrate the launch of Version 2.0, CI Games is offering discounts on the game across multiple platforms. The PlayStation Spring Sale, running until April 23, features the standard edition at 72% off, priced at $19.60. Xbox users can take advantage of a similar sale until May 1, with the standard edition available for $20.99. Steam and Epic Games Store are also running custom sales, offering substantial discounts until early May.

In the wake of CI Games experiencing layoffs in mid-2024, the ongoing success of Lords of the Fallen and its community-driven updates demonstrate the studio's resilience. With a sequel already in the works, slated for release in 2026, CI Games has confirmed that full production is underway, with over 200 developers involved in the project. The sequel is expected to feature higher production values and a more commercial art style and narrative.

The latest update has sparked a renewed interest in Lords of the Fallen, and players are eager to explore the new content and features. As Tyminski noted, "Honestly, the game has grown way beyond what we first imagined when we launched in 2023 – now is the perfect time for new players to join our franchise and current fans to experience Lords of the Fallen in an exciting new light." With the introduction of the Free Friend's Pass and shared progression, players have more reasons than ever to dive into the dark fantasy world of Lords of the Fallen.

As the gaming community awaits the resolution of the Steam delay, the excitement surrounding the 2.0 update is palpable. Players are encouraged to take advantage of the ongoing sales and experience the revamped gameplay, whether solo or with friends. The future looks bright for Lords of the Fallen, and fans are hopeful for what CI Games has in store next.
