Local Players Shine At Italian Tennis Tournaments

Carlo Battiston and Andrea Barone emerge victorious amid vibrant local competition.

Recent results from the Italian Regional Tennis Tournament have spotlighted local talents and set the stage for upcoming competitions. One of the standout performances came from Carlo Battiston, who triumphed at the Il Tpra Expert Level tournament held at Motta di Livenza. Battiston, who is the past president of the local tennis club, faced off against Enzo Fasan in the finals. The match was fiercely contested, going to three sets, with Battiston eventually winning with scores of 4-2, 1-4, and 10-4.

The tennis scene remains dynamic, with the Torneo di Carnevale currently underway at Vedelago until March 2. This event features both male and female draws, boasting 143 players competing for glory. Among the players already promoted to the main draw are Pasquale Sabino, Gianni Rossetto, Riccardo Stocco, Davide Ceccato, Antonio Cecchele, and Vincenzo Spataro. The excitement is palpable as competitors await their matchups.

Additional tournaments are also on the horizon, reflecting the competitive spirit of the region. The TC Barchessa is hosting its own Rodeo men’s category tournament on March 1 and 2, aimed at players with rankings up to 3.3. Interested participants must sign up before 12 noon on February 27. Concurrently, Castelfranco Veneto will welcome players for another Rodeo men’s category event during the same dates, with similar registration requirements.

From March 1 to 16, players can participate in the men's and women's third category tournament at Altivole, showcasing the area’s commitment to fostering tennis skills among locals. Registration for this event will also close at midday on February 27.

Looking forward, the Sporting Life Center will host provincial master tournaments for all Tpra categories starting March 1. This event will feature singles matches for both men and women, as well as mixed doubles, acting as pre-qualifiers for the Ibi Road to Torino, which promises to add another layer of excitement to the tennis calendar.

Meanwhile, at Volpago del Montello, the Rodeo Steel for the third category has already crowned its champion, Andrea Barone. The Tennis Club veteran won decisively, delivering two straight sets of 4-1 against Manuel Massagrande from Vicenza. Both players displayed commendable skills, but Barone’s experience shone through.

Completing the podium were Alberto Dalle Carbonare, representing the Under 16 Bassano category, and local player Sandro Silvestrin. Other players from the host club, Simone Martin and Stefano Cauduro, also secured three victories each, marking them as players to watch as the tournament season progresses.

Overall, these tournaments not only highlight individual achievements but are integral to building community spirit and encouraging the development of tennis at the regional level.
