Linha 7-Rubi Train Service Restored Amid Disruptions

Recovery efforts continue following landslide and derailment impacts on commuter transport.

Service on the Linha 7-Rubi of the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) is slowly returning to normal following significant disruptions caused by heavy rains and subsequent train derailment on February 1, 2025. Passengers using the train line faced challenges on February 3, as operations between Francisco Morato and Campo Limpo Paulista remained suspended due to recovery work.

On the morning of February 3, CPTM announced resumed service on most of the Linha 7-Rubi, though trains were operating at reduced speed. A landslide on February 1 had struck a train set to begin its route, which led to the derailment of the train before any passengers were onboard. Fortunately, the train operator was unharmed and later released from medical care.

According to reports from Globo, the service disruption had necessitated the interjection of emergency buses under the PAESE program, which were made available to transport passengers between the affected stations. These buses were operational until at least midday on February 3, ensuring continued mobility for passengers.

Technical crews had to remove the damaged train from the track and work to mitigate the effects of the landslide. They successfully cleared one track shortly after the incident, allowing limited service provision. Regular operations resumed between stations Jundiaí and Francisco Morato, as well as from Camp Limpo Paulista to Rio Grande da Serra. The CPTM has indicated work will continue to restore full normalcy, including clearing the second track affected by the incident.

Details from the CPTM also revealed continuing disruptions, especially between Francisco Morato and Campo Limpo Paulista, as the cleanup process was underway. For the convenience of riders, buses from the PAESE continue to facilitate travel along this section until full train service can be restored. The technical team is actively addressing the remaining debris from the landslide, ensuring it is completely cleared before resuming operations on both tracks.

On February 2, CPTM personnel had already encountered difficulties reinstoring full service due to the presence of two derailed train wagons at the tunnel exit near Botujuru. Initial projections varied but indicated the likelihood of these restrictions being active through the beginning of the week. Passengers were cautioned to expect longer wait times between trains as the schedule adjusted to accommodate track limitations.

Crews worked round the clock after the incident, emphasizing the removal of mud and fallen earth, which had accumulated due to continuous rains throughout the preceding week. The initiative to normalize operations has become their top priority, hoping to return to pre-accident conditions as soon as possible.

The news was echoed across various social media platforms, where CPTM kept commuters updated on the recovery process along with detailed timelines for the resumption of specific services. Commuters have been encouraged to check CPTM's official channels for updates on operational timings and alternate transportation measures.

Local news outlets like Diário do Transporte reported not only on the train’s status but also on the additional impacts of the weather conditions leading to the landslide. Further rain forecasts suggest potential early February showers could delay complete restoration efforts, prompting CPTM to remain vigilant about safety and service reliability.

For now, service intervals are planned to be longer and speed restrictions will apply until cleanup and safety assessments are satisfactorily concluded. CPTM maintains their commitment to passenger safety above all else as they continue these recovery efforts.

Despite the setbacks, train portions away from the site between Jundiaí, Camp Limpo Paulista, and Rio Grande da Serra are running normally, ensuring at least partial service availability for regular railway users. Efforts will also aim to communicate effectively with commuters, providing clarity on expected service times and recovery milestones as they come to fruition.
