Lil Baby Teases Collaboration With Future Following Thug's Suggestion

The Atlanta rappers aim to create music steeped in their individual journeys and collective experiences.

Lil Baby, the Atlanta-based rapper, has exciting news for his fans as he recently hinted at the development of a collaborative mixtape with Future. This exciting project, prompted by Young Thug's suggestion, is already well underway, with the duo reportedly having recorded around ten songs together since Thug's release from prison on October 31, 2023.

While promoting his latest album, WHAM, which dropped on January 3, Lil Baby discussed this upcoming project during Spotify's Rap Caviar. "Me and Future was working on a joint tape. We damn near got the joint tape done. [Young Thug] came home, he ain't going for that's," he said, confirming the depth of collaboration brewing among the three artists.

The concept for this mixtape arose from Young Thug's idea when he was incarcerated. "When he was in jail, he said, 'Call Pluto, I want y'all to do a tape together.' It was completely Thug's idea," Baby elaborated. He shared how Thug had taken the initiative even behind bars, effectively naming the potential project before he was released. With Thug back in the studio, he is now eager to be part of this collaboration, quipping, "Now when he got out, he like, 'S**, I'm on the tape.'" This enthusiasm hints at potential musical fireworks on the horizon.

Adding to this collaborative effort, Lil Baby is also working on various other projects. His fans can look forward to more releases from him, including the Dominique album, also planned for this year. Describing it as "more the serious me, more personal," Baby commented on his desire to share more with his audience and approach his music from a more introspective angle.

"Dominique is part of the new path I’m on. I hate the word vulnerable, but I’m gonna be more open to my fans and my audience," he remarked during Lil Yachty's podcast, A Safe Place. The transition from the more carefree, lavish themes of WHAM to the reflective nature of Dominique symbolizes Baby's artistic growth.

The WHAM album has already created considerable buzz and could push him back to the top of the charts once more. Predicted to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 with approximately 125,000 first-week units, this project sets the stage for another significant milestone for Baby. He commented on the differences between WHAM* and his upcoming works, stating, "WHAM is more me on some young n-gga shit — fast cars, girls, jewelry, money. You know, the turnt lifestyle." This divergence showcases the multifaceted nature of his artistry.

Lil Baby’s collaboration with Future, fuelled by Young Thug’s encouragement, signifies not only teamwork among talented artists but also sets expectations high for fans who anticipate groundbreaking music. Whether it’s through energetic party bangers or more personal reflections, there's no doubt Lil Baby is on the path to continuing his legacy as one of hip hop’s standout voices.
