Liga MX Clubs Finalize Roster Changes For 2025 Season

With fewer signings and numerous departures, teams prepare for the new challenges of Clausura 2025.

With the Liga MX Clausura 2025 season just around the corner, teams are scrambling to finalize their rosters amid significant turnover. While clubs typically use this time to bolster their line-ups, some have been more active than others during this pre-season transfer window.

At the forefront of the roster changes are Chivas, who have announced numerous player departures but hardly any arrivals. Amaury Vergara, president of Chivas, indicated on social media his awareness of the team's responsibilities heading toward the new season, yet the club has confirmed only one signing, leaving fans questioning the team's direction. Prominent players such as Antonio Briseño and Jesús Orozco Chiquete have bid farewell as they seek opportunities elsewhere, heading to clubs like Toluca and Cruz Azul, respectively.

Briseño’s departure marks the end of his stint at Chivas after having left his mark over the years, with over 200 appearances. Meanwhile, Orozco Chiquete, who was seen as a promising defender, is expected to join Cruz Azul after lengthy negotiations. Chivas anticipates these departures mean they must look toward fulfilling their other positional needs, hence their interest in reinforcements from within and possibly beyond Mexico.

The only notable addition to the roster so far is Miguel Tapias from Minnesota United, aimed at filling the void left by outgoing defenders. Chivas aims to secure more high-caliber players, with Orbelín Pineda still under consideration, even as negotiations with AEK Athens continue. Yet, it’s the uncertainty around player movements—most significantly, whether Luis Chávez from Dinamo Moscow will decide to return to Liga MX—that keeps fans on edge.

Across the league, Monterrey has also been busy. They welcomed the young, promising Ricardo Chávez from Atlético de San Luis, as well as Alfonso Alvarado, who is back with the team after his impressive performance with León. The decision to bring Chávez on board showcases Monterrey's ambition to remain competitive at the highest echelons of Mexican football.

Meanwhile, Cruz Azul made its intentions clear with the signing of left-back Omar Campos from LAFC, indicating their aim to strengthen the backline. Newly appointed coach Martín Anselmi believes Campos will fit seamlessly and provide the team with greater tactical depth. Campos brings valuable experience to the team, making him one of the most exciting signings this transfer period.

Other clubs like Atlas are shaping their rosters with strategic intent. They’ve confirmed several players joining, including Matías Cóccaro from Canada’s Montreal Impact. The additions signal Atlas’ determination to bolster their squad following last season’s results.

Looking at the overall league dynamics, most teams are undergoing significant transitions with mixed outcomes of excitement and uncertainty. The conclusion of this transfer window promises to change the competitive nature of #LigaMX, and fans eagerly await how these shifts will influence their teams.

To encapsulate, as the new season draws near, teams are not only focused on acquiring talent but also on ensuring continuity and harmony within their squads. Fans of Chivas, like any other, are hopeful and anxious about how their beloved team will perform with its fresh roster heading toward what promises to be another thrilling competition.
