Liga MX Clausura 2025 Heats Up With Key Matches

With Monterrey, América, and others vying for the top spots, fans anticipate thrilling showdowns this weekend.

MONTERREY, Mexico – The Liga MX Clausura 2025 season heats up this weekend as several pivotal matches are scheduled, including the highly anticipated encounter between Monterrey and Necaxa. Currently, the standing is tense, with teams desperate to secure points and improve their rankings.

The match will see the Rayados, traditionally one of Mexico's strongest teams, aiming to rebound after underwhelming performances early on. After five matches, Monterrey has struggled to earn points, currently sitting at the 13th position with only three points. Coach Martín Demichelis and his players hope to turn the tide against Necaxa, who have shown stronger form this season under coach Nicolás Larcamón, having earned two wins, one draw, and one loss to date, placing them seventh overall.

Kickoff for the Monterrey vs. Necaxa match is set for Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 20:05 ET (19:05 CT, 17:05 PT). Fans can catch the action live on TUDN+, Vix Premium, and Univisión, which will offer commentary in both English and Spanish.

Meanwhile, the reigning champions Club América face Juárez FC, both teams vying for supremacy as they sit tied at ten points at the top of the table. America's match is equally significant, occurring at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes at 17:00 CT (18:00 ET) and shown on TUDN and ViX.

Another interesting matchup is Guadalajara against Querétaro. Guadalajara, currently struggling at the 11th position, looks to secure their first win against the bottom-ranked Querétaro, who have yet to find their footing this season. Their game also kicks off at 17:05 CT and will be aired on Amazon Prime.

Also on the agenda, Pachuca takes on Atlas, where Pachuca aims to solidify their third-place standing with nine points against Atlas, who is still searching for their first win this season.

Saturday's action wraps up with Toluca hosting Tigres UANL, the current table leaders, at 21:10 CT. Tigres are aiming to maintain their undefeated streak as they chase their fourth victory of the tournament.

The fifth matchweek started on Friday night, featuring two games: Mazatlán FC narrowly edged León 2-1, and Tijuana fell to Cruz Azul, which keeps the league dynamic as teams constantly shift their positioning.

James Rodríguez's absence was noted as Mazatlán managed to secure their standing without him on the starting line. Despite not starting, he may play key roles going forward as the league progresses. The expectations are high as clubs build momentum; Mazatlán's current record solidifies them as one of the contenders to watch.

Following his promotion to head coach, André Jardine of America expressed confidence about the club's future. “The last tournament was successful for us; we're determined to build on this and aim for consistent performance leading to another strong liguilla,” Jardine stated, emphasizing the continuous improvements being made both on the field and within club management.

For avid fans, the excitement doesn't end here. Sunday matches will conclude the weekend's fixtures, showcasing Santos Laguna against Puebla and Atlético San Luis against Pumas UNAM. These games will be pivotal for ensuring final standings leading up to the Ligilla.
