Let's Dance 2025 Season Premiere Sees First Eliminations

Comedian Osan Yaran and partner Christina Hänni are the first to leave the competition after disappointing performances.

On February 28, 2025, the much-anticipated eighteenth season of "Let's Dance" premiered on RTL, featuring celebrities competing for the title of "Dancing Star 2025." Following the initial acquaintance show held on February 21, participants took to the dance floor with their partners, showcasing their rehearsed routines before the judges and audience.

The evening, which promised excitement and talent, was not without its disappointments. Comedian Osan Yaran, who stood alongside his dance partner Christina Hänni, fell short of expectations during his tango performance. The couple received only 10 points from the panel, with strict judge Joachim Llambi delivering sharp criticism. "What kind of twitching was going on with your foot?" he questioned, adding, "There was no feeling, no eroticism; it was like you were just walking around." The combination of low scores and lack of audience support led to their elimination, with Yaran expressing gratitude for the experience and noting his appreciation for Hänni's partnership.

Despite their shortcomings, Yaran's exit was not the only surprising twist of the evening. Influencer Paola Maria, who danced with fan-favorite Massimo Sinató, found herself under threat as well. Their slow waltz earned them 12 jury points, but it was not enough to sway the audience votes, leaving her fate hanging precariously until the end of the show.

Overall, the competition had several noteworthy performances. Para-swimmer Taliso Engel shone brightly, teaming up with Patricija Ionel for their quickstep, and impressing the judges with 23 points. Former gymnast Fabian Hambüchen also made waves, earning the same score for his jive with Anastasia Maruster. Hambüchen, who admitted to having "really weak knees" at the start, received commendations from the judges for his rhythmic control and solid steps.

Adding to the evening's drama was the reaction of the audience to Llambi's brutal critiques. After singer Ben Zucker's less-than-stellar Viennese waltz with partner Malika Dzumaev, Llambi echoed his dissatisfaction, stating, "The rhythm was all wrong, and every time you tried, you missed the mark." His score of one point led to audible boos from the audience, yet Zucker and Dzumaev progressed to the next round, showing the unpredictable nature of the show.

Another couple of dance pairs also moved on with relative ease. Leyla Lahouar and Jeanette Biedermann, both returning from recent health issues, demonstrated commendable performances, ensuring their participation in future episodes.

It was noted how this season carries additional weight, not only because of the returning celebrities but also due to the excitement surrounding the show's legacy and viewership.

Yaran's exit came as part of what's expected to be another intense season filled with surprises, crowds, and the push for perfection among both contestants and judges.

Despite the curtain falling on his dance hopes, Yaran expressed optimism: "I learned so much, and I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything." Meanwhile, Hänni, after two years away from the dance competition due to motherhood, faced disappointment as her return concluded prematurely. Their dismissal marked the first of many eliminations expected this season.

Looking forward, audiences can anticipate dramatic shifts, impressive feats, and the unmistakable glitz and glamour as "Let's Dance" continues, now more than ever, showcasing the intersection of talent and showmanship.
