Leones Negros, the university football team, will host Cancún this weekend at Estadio Jalisco, currently sitting at the top of the table. Under the guidance of coach Alfonso Sosa, the team is engaged in a close contest with Atlante for this prestigious spot.
Although coach Sosa does not lose sleep over the standings, he acknowledges the importance of performance, especially after their recent improvement. His primary focus now is ensuring the team continues to evolve positively rather than fixate on the leaderboard.
Leones Negros understand they can no longer settle for merely having good seasons. A playoff appearance is not enough consolation for an institution now aiming for grander objectives.
This Sunday’s match against Cancún will test Leones Negros, who are setting their undefeated streak on the line. So far this season, they, along with Mineros de Zacatecas, stand as the only teams yet to suffer defeat after six rounds. Interestingly, they have one match less than Atlante; yet, having a superior goal difference gives them the advantage of their current leader status.
Unfortunately, Leones Negros will have to face Cancún without their prolific striker, Jesús Alberto Ocejo, who received a red card following their encounter with Correcaminos. Ocejo has recorded two hat-tricks this season, making his absence feel significant as the team goes forth to defend their top spot on the table.
Fans are excited for the match, as the Leones Negros are not just competing for points, but also aiming to establish their presence as title contenders. The upcoming fixture is scheduled for February 23, 2025, kicking off at 12:00 PM local time at Estadio Jalisco. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 4 and Disney Plus Premium IZN.
Leones Negros are poised to roar this Sunday, ready to give it their all as they take the field. With sharp focus on both maintaining form and pursuing championship aspirations, they will put everything on the line against Cancún, hoping to come out victorious once more and validate their position at the top.
