"Many of the ads identified by TTP offered drugs on multiple Meta platforms," the report stated, providing examples such as accounts promoting packages of OxyContin and illegal prescriptions. One account even showcased ads for prescription cough syrup containing promethazine and codeine, well-known ingredients used to concoct the dangerous mixture termed 'lean.'
The concern among legislators centers around youth exposure to these illicit drug ads. With the opioid crisis escalating, lawmakers are acutely aware of the delicate situation involving minors and want to understand how Meta ensures compliance with its own community guidelines prohibiting such advertising.
