Laurent Loingtier has taken quite the leap of faith, leaving behind his nursing career to pursue his passion for cooking by opening a restaurant, Maison d'Horbé, located in the quaint village of La Perrière, Normandy. At over 40 years old, this decision marks not just a career switch but the beginning of a rewarding family venture.

After dedicat...ed 20 years to nursing, Laurent states, "I was working as a nurse at the hospital for 20 years and I was meant to stay there until the end of my career... This opportunity to come and cook presented itself and it was just the right time." The inspiration came to him during visits to antique fairs, where he found the charm and nostalgia of family homes, prompting him to envision his restaurant concept.

What makes Maison d'Horbé special isn't just the food, but its unique atmosphere combining culinary delights with beautiful antiques. This place has become somewhat of a local institution, frequented by residents and visitors alike. Laurent’s vision of creating "a tea salon" amid these nostalgic elements has attracted attention and admiration.

This career transition has also sparked inspiration among his family. His mother, Nicole, who previously worked as a shopkeeper, joined him to become the pastry chef of the restaurant. And it's not just Nicole who has pitched in—his nephew Hugues and even his sister Corinne, recently retired from real estate, decided to lend their hands as well. This family-oriented approach has enriched the dining experience and created a fond environment for both the staff and customers.

Laurent's story exemplifies how courage and passion can inspire others. "The spirit of family homes from the past gave him the desire to open a tea salon," notes journalist Marie-Agnès Suquet. The family gathers once a week to brainstorm ideas or simply enjoy each other's company, continuing to build their shared dream together.
