Laura Nolte And Leonie Kluwig Win Gold At Sigulda

Nolte claims her second victory of the season with new teammate Kluwig, overcoming snowy conditions.

Laura Nolte, the Olympic champion from Frankfurt, showcased her formidable skills once more by triumphing at the two-woman bobsleigh World Cup event held in Sigulda, Latvia, marking her second victory of the 2024/25 season. Partnering with the rising star Leonie Kluwig, who made her World Cup debut, the team demonstrated stellar performance on the challenging track.

This win solidifies Nolte’s reputation as one of the premier athletes in the bobsleigh circuit. The duo finished with impressive time, edging out teammate Kim Kalicki, who finished second, just 0.11 seconds behind. The competition wasn’t easy, as unexpected snowfall added complexity to the already challenging Sigulda course.

During the race, Nolte and Kluwig maintained their lead after setting the pace right from their first run, where they achieved the fastest start time. It was Kluwig’s remarkable entry to the elite level of bobsledding, as she transitions from her background as a track athlete. "Ich bin übertrieben zufrieden. Leo hat das so gut gemacht," Nolte expressed, commending Kluwig for her performance.

Despite the difficult conditions, the excitement was palpable as Nolte gleefully celebrated her victory. "Wir hatten top Startzeiten. Damit bin ich sehr zufrieden," she mentioned, reflecting on the teamwork and effort put forth during the race. This victory not only highlights Nolte’s skill but also marks the evolution of Kluwig from a budding athlete to one making her mark on the world stage.

Competition at the event was fierce, with other strong teams like Kaysha Love and Jasmine Jones showcasing their capabilities. The pair from the United States secured the third spot after finishing 0.63 seconds behind, adding another podium finish to their burgeoning careers.

Kluwig expressed her amazement at being part of such elite competition, stating, "Das war schon sehr cool. Aber Weltcup ist next Level. Darauf freue ich mich sehr.” Her transition from athletics to bobsleigh may seem rapid, but her previous experiences and training have undoubtedly played pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, among the competitors, Lisa Buckwitz didn’t have the race she hoped for and remarked on how the course conditions affected her run. "Mit Startnummer vier sind wir voll in den Schnee reingefahren, es war ein bisschen unfair," she stated, noting the impact of the snowfall on her performance during the event.

This win at Sigulda not only enhances Nolte's standing as the top contender for the World Cup but also signifies Kluwig's successful initiation at this level of sport. With high expectations for their performance as the season continues, both athletes aim to maintain momentum and explore their capabilities on future tracks.

Laura Nolte’s continued success is not just about individual triumph but also about teamwork, resilience, and the capacity to excel under challenging circumstances. With her new partner proving herself on the world stage, the potential for future victories looms large as they gear up for the next competitions after the holiday break.

Planning for upcoming events, the team looks forward to building on this success, fostering camaraderie among teammates, and setting new benchmarks for what they can achieve together. The atmosphere of competition remains electric, promising yet another inspiring season for female athletes aiming to leave their mark on the bobsleigh world.
