More culinary gems revealed as every foodie's guide expands its ranks

Latin America is stirring up the culinary map once again as the exhilarating 2024 rankings for Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants approach. Set to reveal the ultimate gastronomic heroes at a lavish awards ceremony taking place on November 26, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro, the anticipation is palpable.

Just prior to this major event, the extended list showcasing restaurants ranked from 51 to 100 was revealed, providing enthusiastic diners with fresh places to explore and savor.

The number 100 spot is claimed by the newcomer, Debora, located in Bogotá, Colombia. Although it opened only mid-2023, the talent behind the establishment is no novice. Chef Jacobo Bonilla has tapped deep regional culinary roots, emphasizing hyper-seasonality and the rich bounty of Colombian produce. Guests can expect visually stunning, flavor-packed dishes alongside a carefully curated selection of wines helmed by Valentino Galán, who previously showcased his expertise at acclaimed eateries like Central and Kjolle.

Graced at number 99, Levadura de Olla from Oaxaca, Mexico, captures the soul of Oaxacan culinary traditions. Led by Chef Thalia Barrios García, this restaurant transports patrons, providing authentic expressions of local cuisine. From everyday favorites like guacamole to ceremonial mole dishes, Levadura de Olla offers genuine tastes intertwined with cultural significance.

Moving to Chile, Karai by Mitsuharu enters the rankings at number 98. Chef Mitsuharu “Micha” Tsumura maintains the legacy of his prestigious Lima establishment, Maido, through this venture located within the luxurious W Hotel. The restaurant’s fare, rich with nikkei flavors, does not disappoint, showcasing dishes like grilled lamb with yakiniku sauce.

Number 95 is occupied by La Docena, another Oaxaca gem serving elevated seafood experiences influenced by the vibrant New Orleans culinary culture. With its lively ambiance and freshly sourced seafood, it’s no surprise this establishment is gaining notoriety.

At number 94, the long-standing establishment Nicos, located in Mexico City, continues to thrive after over sixty years. Chef Gerardo Vázquez Lugo presents a menu rich with local ingredients and offers diners genuine tastes of diverse regional cuisines.

Also making the cut, El Mercado returns at number 93. This beloved ceviche spot demonstrates the abundant offerings of Peru’s coastal cuisine, featuring playful dishes from one of Lima’s well-respected chefs, Rafael Osterling.

Number 92 sees the emergence of Tributo, where Ecuadorian beef becomes the star of the show. Located in Quito, this establishment is led by Chef Luis Maldonado, showcasing expertly crafted beef dishes and local offerings.

Lastly, Oro at number 91 embodies the identity of its chef and TV personality, Felipe Bronze, through uniquely curated seasonal menus celebrating local ingredients and culinary techniques.
