Lane Johnson Extends Contract With Eagles Through 2027

The veteran tackle signs for $48 million, ensuring his pivotal role on the team's offensive line for years to come.

Lane Johnson, the celebrated right tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles, has solidified his commitment to the team by signing a one-year contract extension, ensuring his presence through the 2027 NFL season. The deal, reported by ESPN, includes an additional $8 million over the next two years along with $30 million guaranteed, bringing his total earnings to $48 million for the next two seasons, which includes $40 million already guaranteed.

At 34 years old and turning 35 this May, Johnson has been a cornerstone of the Eagles' offensive line since he was drafted fourth overall by the franchise during the 2013 NFL Draft. His remarkable career has seen him earn accolades as one of the top tackles in the league. This past season during the irresistible 2024 campaign, he played and started in 15 regular-season games, anchoring the line for the Eagles as they clinched their second Lombardi Trophy.

His exceptional performance earned him recognition as Second-Team All-Pro for the second consecutive season and another invitation to the Pro Bowl, making it six Pro Bowl appearances for him overall. Johnson's accomplishments include being named to five All-Pro teams, two of which were First-Team honors. His performance has not gone unnoticed, as his blocking efforts contributed significantly to the Eagles' offensive success, particularly his impressive statistic of not allowing any sacks during the 2024 season, placing him at the top of Pro Football Focus rankings.

February 2025 marked another significant milestone for Johnson, as he joined the elite ranks of players within the franchise, becoming one of only four players to win two Super Bowls with the Eagles, alongside defensive end Brandon Graham, kicker Jake Elliott, and former long snapper Rick Lovato.

Earlier on March 17, 2025, the Eagles also made strides to bolster their defense, agreeing to terms with a former edge rusher from the New York Giants, indicating their desire to remain competitive moving forward. Despite talks of potential player losses during the free-agency period, the Eagles felt the urgency to secure their core players, exemplified by Johnson's contract extension.

Unfortunately, the Eagles faced some setbacks, including the departure of right guard Mekhi Becton, who started all 15 regular season games last year, as he heads to the Los Angeles Chargers. This loss creates new opportunities along the Eagles' offensive line, and all eyes are on third-year offensive lineman Tyler Steen, who has already appeared in 28 games for the Eagles. Steen appears to be the favorite to step up and fill the vacancy left by Becton. The Eagles have also secured guard Kenyon Green, who was acquired via trade from the Houston Texans, adding another layer of competition at the right guard position.

This season, the Eagles will have to navigate these changes as they aim to replicate their successful run from the previous year. With Johnson's experience and leadership, the team remains optimistic about their potential moving forward.

Lane Johnson's contract extension is not just about financial security; it signifies the Eagles' commitment to maintaining stability on their offensive line, as they approach the upcoming season with renewed energy and determination. Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating the next chapter of Johnson's illustrious career and the Eagles' chances of returning to championship glory.
