A traditional ceremony marks the start of the Tenggarong Iron Bridge Companion Bridge project, promising improved infrastructure and connectivity.

The government of Kutai Kartanegara Regency (Pemkab Kukar) officially commenced the construction of the Tenggarong Iron Bridge Companion Bridge with a prayer ceremony and the Tempong Tawar traditional ritual on Monday, April 21, 2025. This significant event took place in the Simpang Tiga Danau Semayang area of Tenggarong, symbolizing hope for the smooth progress of this strategic infrastructure project.

Among those present at the ceremony were Kukar Regent Edi Damansyah, Sultan Kutai Kartanegara Ing Martadipura H. Aji Muhammad Arifin, Acting Chairman of the Kukar DPRD Junadi, members of the Kukar Forkopimda, Head of the Kukar Public Works Department Wiyono, several heads of OPD, and representatives from the contracting companies PT Putra Nanggroe Aceh and PT Celebes Sarana Jasa.

In his address, Regent Edi Damansyah emphasized that the Iron Bridge serves not only as a link between the two sides of the Mahakam River but also as a historical icon and a witness to the long journey of Tenggarong City, having stood for nearly a century. "This bridge has extraordinary historical value. It has become part of the identity of the Tenggarong community. However, with the development of the times and the high mobility needs, the companion bridge has become an urgent necessity," he stated.

He further explained that the construction of this new bridge reflects the commitment of the Kukar Regency Government to provide modern infrastructure capable of supporting regional growth while addressing the challenges posed by increasing traffic volumes. "Here, we must demonstrate wisdom as a community that respects historical heritage but is also ready to move forward with real solutions for the future," he added.

The Tempong Tawar traditional ritual and the reading of prayers for safety, led by traditional and community leaders, were also significant parts of this event. This tradition was performed as a request for safety and smooth progress during the construction process.

Regent Edi emphasized the importance of involving all parties in supervising the construction of this bridge to ensure it is completed on time and in accordance with technical specifications. "I would like to express my gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan of Kutai Kartanegara, the Kukar Forkopimda, community leaders, and all the citizens who attended and supported this construction. May this bridge be completed on time by the end of 2025," he concluded.

The construction of the Companion Bridge to the Iron Bridge is expected not only to improve connectivity but also to be part of the infrastructure transformation in Kukar towards a better and more competitive future.
