Forecasters predict temperature swings and strong winds in the coming days

As April unfolds, residents of Krasnoyarsk can expect a month characterized by unpredictable weather patterns. According to Dmitry Ulyanov, head of the meteorological forecasts department at the Central Siberian Hydrometeorological Center, the month is anticipated to bring noticeable temperature fluctuations and significant precipitation.

On April 2, 2025, the city experienced a sudden drop in temperature, with nighttime lows reaching -2 degrees Celsius and wet snow making an appearance. Currently, thermometers are hovering around +5 degrees, accompanied by wind gusts hitting 20 meters per second. Ulyanov explained that the sharp temperature changes are linked to the passage of a cyclone and atmospheric fronts affecting the region.

Looking ahead, forecasters predict a marked warming trend beginning on April 5, with temperatures expected to soar to +16 degrees. However, this warmth will be short-lived as the weather is set to shift dramatically every few days, largely due to strong winds that could reach 19 to 24 meters per second. Nighttime temperatures are projected to range from +0 to +10 degrees, and residents should prepare for wet snow or rain almost daily.

Specifically, on the night of April 3, temperatures will dip further, falling to between -3 and -5 degrees. During the day, the mercury is expected to rise to about +5 degrees, with wind gusts potentially reaching 15 to 18 meters per second. By April 4, forecasters anticipate a rise to +15 to +17 degrees, and on April 5, daytime highs could reach around +18 degrees.

However, the pleasant weather will soon give way to a significant cold snap. By April 6, residents in Krasnoyarsk should prepare for a dramatic drop in temperatures, with nighttime lows expected to hover around 0 to +2 degrees, and daytime highs around +8 degrees. Ulyanov noted that the strong storm winds expected over the weekend could reach gusts of 24 meters per second or more, further complicating the weather situation.

Ulyanov elaborated on the meteorological reasons behind these fluctuations, stating, "From Friday to Saturday, a cyclone is expected to pass through the area, bringing atmospheric fronts with it. Physically, there exists a temperature difference between the north and south; it is cold up north and warm down south. Consequently, as these fronts pass, temperatures will drop. The increase in wind in Krasnoyarsk is associated with the cyclone's passage, as high pressure in the south and low pressure in the north create these strong gusts."
