K-Pop Stars Unite To Aid South Korean Wildfire Recovery

BLACKPINK and BTS lead donations to support victims of devastating wildfires

The Korean entertainment industry has rallied together in the wake of the deadliest wildfires in South Korea's history, which began on March 21, 2025, and have tragically resulted in the loss of at least 28 lives. The wildfires, which started in the southeastern region, have displaced tens of thousands of residents and caused extensive damage, including the destruction of a 1,300-year-old temple in Uiseong city.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath, numerous K-pop idols and K-drama actors have stepped up, making significant donations to support wildfire recovery efforts. Among the prominent figures contributing to this cause are members of the globally recognized boy band BTS and the girl group BLACKPINK.

On March 27, BLACKPINK's Jennie made a generous donation of 100 million KRW (approximately 68,138 USD) through the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. "I was heartbroken to hear that so many people are struggling due to the sudden wildfire. Though it may be a small gesture, I wanted to offer some comfort and support," she expressed, hoping for a swift return to normalcy for the affected individuals and their families.

Jennie's donation is earmarked for emergency living support, provision of relief supplies, and the operation of temporary shelters for those displaced by the fires. Just a day later, on March 28, Jisoo, another BLACKPINK member, contributed 150 million KRW (about 102,208 USD) to the Korean Red Cross. "I hope this donation can provide some strength to the firefighters working tirelessly and to all those affected by the wildfires. It is heartbreaking to see beautiful forests turn to ashes in an instant, and I sincerely wish for the restoration of the damaged lands," Jisoo stated.

Both Jennie and Jisoo are not only making headlines with their philanthropic efforts but are also achieving remarkable success in their solo careers. Jennie's first full-length solo album, 'Ruby,' released on March 7, has been a commercial hit, featuring 15 tracks and showcasing her artistic versatility. The title track, "Like Jennie," debuted at No. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the album itself secured the No. 7 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, recording first-week sales of 661,130 copies.

Meanwhile, Jisoo is currently on her 2025 fan meeting tour titled 'Lights, Love, Action!' visiting seven cities across Asia, including Manila, Bangkok, and Tokyo. She recently released her new mini-album 'AMORTAGE' and is making strides in acting, with roles in upcoming series like 'Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint' and 'Boyfriend on Demand.'

The outpouring of support from the entertainment industry is not limited to just BLACKPINK. BTS has also made a significant impact, with Jungkook donating 1 billion KRW, while his bandmates RM, J-Hope, and Suga each contributed 100 million KRW. Other K-pop groups, including SEVENTEEN, have joined the effort, with SEVENTEEN alone donating 1 billion KRW.

The donations extend beyond just idol groups, as several members of NCT, including Taeyong, Jungwoo, and Jaemin, have also made contributions. In total, the list of celebrities supporting the wildfire relief effort includes GOT7’s Jinyoung, Red Velvet’s Seulgi, ZEROBASEONE’s Jiwoong, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyon, and TWICE’s Jihyo, among many others.

Notable K-drama stars have also stepped forward, with actors like Ji Chang Wook, Byeon Woo Seok, IU, and Kim Woo Bin joining the cause. The donations from these stars reflect a collective effort to uplift the wildfire recovery process and provide aid to the victims affected by this disaster.

The wildfires have wreaked havoc on the region, with authorities confirming that the main blazes have been contained, but the damage remains extensive. Cultural heritage sites, including the famous Manhyujeong Pavilion, a popular filming location for the K-drama 'Mr. Sunshine,' are at risk of being lost forever.

As the recovery efforts continue, the donations from the Korean entertainment industry serve as a beacon of hope for those affected. The solidarity shown by these stars highlights the power of community and the importance of coming together during times of crisis.

As the nation looks towards recovery, the contributions from these artists not only provide immediate relief but also inspire hope for a brighter future. With the support of the entertainment community, the affected areas may slowly begin to heal and rebuild, fostering resilience among the people who have endured so much.
