Konyaspor Secures Late Victory Against Trabzonspor

A last-minute penalty gives Konyaspor their first home win this season and intensifies matchday tensions.

Konyaspor emerged victorious against Trabzonspor with a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to a late penalty conversion during the 26th week of the Süper Lig held on March 3, 2025. The match, played at the Medaş Konya Büyükşehir Stadium, carried significant weight for both teams as they fought for valuable league points.

The game started at 16:00 and witnessed competitive exchanges from the outset. Konyaspor struck first but failed to find the back of the net early on; their first significant chance came from a header by Blaz Kramer which hit the post. Konyaspor's Yusuf Erdoğan also created opportunities with precise crosses, including one for Kramer, who was unable to convert.

Throughout the first half, both teams had their chances. Trabzonspor's Edin Višća mounted pressure as he attempted to break the deadlock, yet Konyaspor's goalkeeper Deniz Ertaş stood firm, parrying his shot. The first half ended with neither side netting any goals, though the tension was palpable.

Into the second half, both teams continued to apply pressure. Konyaspor's Louka Prip narrowly missed with a near-post drive, and later, Trabzonspor's Ozan Tufan almost equalized after receiving strong service inside the box. Both teams thought they had found their scoring touch numerous times but were met with resolute defending or key saves.

With the clock winding down, the match took another turn. The tension escalated as Konyaspor's Uğurcan Yazğılı and Trabzonspor's Serdar Saatçi found themselves embroiled in heated exchanges, which boiled over to involve multiple players from both sides. A brief melee ensued, leading the referee to halt the match momentarily. The situation cooled down, resulting in yellow cards for Yazğılı and Saatçi among others.

Just as it appeared the match would settle for goallessness, Konyaspor seized the moment. With the match clock showing 90+9 minutes, the referee signaled for VAR intervention after Lundstram of Trabzonspor was penalized for handling the ball inside the box. Following the review, the referee awarded Konyaspor the penalty kick, which triggered jubilation from the home fans.

Umut Nayır stepped up to take the spot kick, and with composure, he expertly sent the ball past Trabzonspor's goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır, securing the match's sole goal. The crowd erupted as the final whistle confirmed Konyaspor's triumph.

This victory marked Konyaspor's first win at home this season, allowing them to gather momentum as they moved up the league table, now sitting with 28 points. Conversely, Trabzonspor's struggles continued, remaining at 32 points and facing the grim reality of their winless streak extending to twelve matches.

Looking forward, Konyaspor will prepare for their next fixture against İkas Eyüpspor, with the team already gearing up for training this coming Wednesday. Despite the tension late in the match, Konyaspor's decisive late goal and resulting win may serve as motivation moving forward, as they seek to climb higher up the league standings with renewed confidence.
