Koji Miyoshi Joins Sint-Truiden As J2 League Star

The talented forward leaves Jef United Chiba for Belgium, aiming to make his mark at Sint-Truiden VV.

Sint-Truiden VV is on the brink of securing the signing of 24-year-old forward Koji Miyoshi from Jef United Chiba, widely recognized as the top scorer of the 2024 J2 League with 23 goals. The Belgian club, owned by Japanese interests and known for its history of recruiting Japanese players, is hopeful Miyoshi will contribute significantly to their campaign to avoid relegation.

This transfer not only emphasizes Sint-Truiden's strategy to strengthen its squad but also reflects Miyoshi's desire to take his career to the next level. Over his time at Jef United Chiba, Miyoshi has made 78 appearances, netting 37 goals, with 23 of those coming during the 2024 season. His impressive performance earned him titles of both league MVP and top scorer.

Regarding the transfer, local media outlet HBVL reported on January 6, 2024, stating, "Koji Miyoshi has agreed to terms, with only the medical examination remaining." This development follows significant interest from various top-tier J1 clubs, but Miyoshi opted for Sint-Truiden, lured by the club's connection to Japanese footballers.

The Sint-Truiden side is certainly facing challenges this season, currently sitting 14th out of 16 teams with only 4 wins and 9 losses. They hoped for rejuvenation after switching managers to Ferris Mazou, but the team's struggles intensified following serious injuries, such as Japanese defender Shogo Taniguchi's Achilles tear.

Sports Director Andre Pinto, reflecting on the club's situation, explained, “We take this situation very seriously. The points we have accumulated seem impossible, but since coach Ferris Mazou took over, there have been positive results. Though luck has not favored us much, we believe targeted reinforcements like Miyoshi can help us climb the rankings.”

Though the excitement around acquiring Miyoshi is palpable, Pinto pointed out other pressing needs within the squad, particularly at the center-back position. “They are not yet prepared,” he added, signaling imminent moves to bolster the defense.

The addition of Miyoshi is eagerly anticipated by fans, reflecting Sint-Truiden's strategy of not just relying on established players but integrating promising talent from Japan. With the outcome eagerly awaited, the upcoming season could prove pivotal for both Miyoshi and Sint-Truiden VV.
