Kobe Marathon 2025 Registration Opens With New Course

Runners can apply for the November event with various special entry options available

The excitement is building as the runner recruitment for the Kobe Marathon 2025 officially kicked off on April 18, 2025, at noon. This much-anticipated event, co-sponsored by the Kobe Shimbun, is set to take place on November 16, 2025, and promises to be a thrilling showcase of athleticism and community spirit.

The full marathon has a capacity of 20,000 participants, while the unique 'Relay Run,' where teams of two pass a baton, will accommodate 150 teams, totaling 300 runners. Both events are expected to attract a large number of applicants, and the deadline for entries is June 2, 2025, at 5 PM. With last year's full marathon experiencing a 2.0 times application rate over its capacity, the competition for spots is sure to be fierce.

For those interested in participating, it’s important to note that if the number of applicants exceeds the available slots, a lottery will determine who gets to run. The results of this lottery will be announced on July 3, 2025, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event.

This year’s marathon introduces a new course that features a turnaround at Okura Beach in Akashi City, offering runners a scenic route along the beautiful coastline. The organizers are optimistic that the new layout will lead to faster times, as it eliminates some of the more challenging sections that were present in previous routes.

In addition to the standard entry, the marathon offers several special entry slots designed to encourage participation from various segments of the community. One notable initiative is the 'Roadside Citizen Frame,' which allows 1,000 residents from Akashi City and Kobe City to participate, fostering local involvement.

Another exciting feature is the 'U30 First-Time Entry Frame,' aimed at first-time participants under the age of 30. This initiative commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, encouraging the younger generation to engage with the history and resilience of their hometown.

For seasoned runners, the 'Age-Specific Challenge Frame' is available for those who have achieved specific time records within their age and gender categories, with a total of 2,000 spots allocated for this purpose. This allows competitive runners to showcase their skills and aim for personal bests in a supportive environment.

Additionally, there’s the 'Support Runner Frame,' which offers priority entry for those who contribute 100,000 yen or more to Hyogo Prefecture or Kobe City. Participants in this category will also enjoy access to a dedicated indoor waiting area at the starting point, providing added comfort before the race begins.

Lastly, the 'Challenge Project Entry Frame' is limited to 60 participants on a first-come, first-served basis and includes professional training guidance leading up to the event. This initiative is designed to help runners prepare effectively, ensuring they are in peak condition on race day.

Applications for all categories can be submitted through the official marathon website, where prospective runners can find more details about the event and registration process.
