Klemen Prepares For Unique Eurovision Performance In Basel

Slovenia's representative shares emotional story behind his act and rehearses upside-down trick.

As excitement builds for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, Slovenia’s representative Klemen is making headlines with his unique performance plans. On April 23, 2025, Slovenia’s national broadcaster RTVSLO held a press conference where Klemen shared details about his upcoming performance in Basel, Switzerland.

Klemen, who will perform the song "How Much Time Do We Have Left," revealed that he has been diligently rehearsing an inverted maneuver for his act. This upside-down trick has been officially approved by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), adding an extra layer of intrigue to his performance. "They (EBU) officially confirmed that we can perform the upside-down trick at Eurovision," Klemen stated during the press conference.

However, he also admitted that his ability to hang upside down had slightly diminished since the national selection event, known as EMA. "A month after EMA, when we were recording our performance for Basel, I realized my ability to hang upside down had slightly diminished. I was feeling very dizzy," he explained. To prepare, Klemen has been practicing against a wall daily to regain his skill.

The performance is set to be emotionally charged, focusing on the story of his wife, Mojca Fatur. "In our performance, we will try to make it very clear that the song is about a particular person who has overcome illness," Klemen elaborated. The staging will see him suspended from the ceiling of the St. Jakobshalle Arena for approximately 30 seconds, a dramatic visual that is sure to captivate the audience.

Slovenia will compete in the first semi-final on May 13, 2025, taking the third spot in the lineup. The pressure is on, as only ten acts will advance to the grand final on May 17, 2025. Fans are encouraged to follow the event closely, as it promises to be an exciting showcase of talent from across Europe.

Meanwhile, the first rehearsals for the 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest commenced on May 2, 2025, marking the event's return to Switzerland for the first time since 1989. Each participating country is given a 40-minute slot to rehearse their entries, allowing them to fine-tune their performances ahead of the live shows.

Delegations submitted their staging plans to the contest organizers in March, and stand-in rehearsals took place in the week leading up to the first rehearsals. Unlike previous years, no video footage of the rehearsals will be released, with only three approved images of each performance shared publicly.

The countries expected to rehearse on the first day include Iceland, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia, Ukraine, Sweden, and Portugal. Klemen’s entry, "How Much Time Do We Have Left," is generating buzz as fans eagerly await the performances.

As the countdown to the contest continues, excitement is palpable among fans and participants alike. The Eurovision Song Contest is known for its vibrant displays of culture and creativity, and this year promises to be no different.

In a separate development, the anticipation is building for the second semi-final on May 15, 2025, where 16 acts will compete for a chance to secure one of the ten spots in the grand final. Recent polls indicate that Finland’s Erika Vikman is a favorite to win this semi-final with her song "ICH KOMME," garnering 14.81% of the votes cast in a recent poll.

JJ from Austria and Miriana Conte from Malta follow closely behind, with 12.71% and 10.86% of the votes, respectively. The results of the poll reflect the growing excitement surrounding the contest, with fans actively engaging in discussions about their favorites.

The other acts expected to qualify based on the poll include Israel, Greece, Lithuania, Ireland, Australia, Denmark, and Czechia. However, Luxembourg, Latvia, Montenegro, Armenia, Serbia, and Georgia may face elimination based on the current standings.

The Eurovision Song Contest continues to be a platform for emerging artists and a celebration of diverse musical talent. As the event approaches, fans are urged to stay connected through social media to keep up with the latest updates and behind-the-scenes content.
