KKR Triumph Over DC By 14 Runs In IPL Thriller

Sunil Narine's all-round performance leads Kolkata to vital victory

In a thrilling encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) edged out Delhi Capitals (DC) by 14 runs in Match 48 of the IPL 2025 season. The match, held on April 29, 2025, showcased a spectacular performance from KKR's Sunil Narine, who not only took three crucial wickets but also contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 27 runs off just 16 balls.

Batting first after losing the toss, KKR set a formidable target of 205 runs, finishing their innings at 204 for 9 in 20 overs. Despite a valiant effort from the Capitals, who managed to score 190 for 9, they fell short, marking their second consecutive defeat.

KKR's innings began explosively, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine putting on a quick-fire partnership. They raced to 79 runs in the first six overs, setting the tone for a high-scoring match. However, the innings faced a hiccup as KKR lost wickets in quick succession, slipping from a comfortable position of 113 for 4 to 177 for 6.

Despite the middle-order collapse, Angkrish Raghuvanshi stood firm, anchoring the innings with a mature knock of 44 runs. Rinku Singh also played a crucial role, adding 36 runs to the total. The finishing touches were provided by Andre Russell, who hit a six and two boundaries in the final overs to push KKR past the 200-run mark.

In response, Delhi Capitals got off to a rocky start, losing their opener Abishek Porel early to Anukul Roy's bowling. Faf du Plessis, however, stabilized the innings with a solid performance, scoring 62 runs off 45 balls. Alongside Axar Patel, who contributed 43 runs, the duo managed to forge a crucial partnership of 76 runs, reviving DC's hopes of chasing down the target.

But the match took a decisive turn when Sunil Narine entered the fray with the ball. His stunning spell of 3 wickets for just 29 runs turned the tide in favor of KKR. He dismissed both du Plessis and Patel in quick succession, leaving DC reeling at 146 for 6. Narine's performance earned him the Player of the Match award, and his pivotal wickets proved to be the turning point in the game.

As the innings progressed, Delhi struggled to maintain the required run rate. Despite a late burst from Vipraj Nigam, who scored a quick 38 runs off 19 balls, the Capitals could not find the momentum needed to clinch the victory. The final overs saw KKR's bowlers, particularly Varun Chakaravarthy, stepping up to seal the win. Chakaravarthy took two wickets in rapid succession, effectively shutting down any remaining hopes for the Capitals.

With this victory, KKR moved to four wins from ten matches, currently sitting seventh in the points table. In contrast, DC, despite their loss, remains in the top four with six wins from ten games. This match highlighted the competitive spirit of the IPL, showcasing both teams' strengths and weaknesses as they battle for playoff positions.

Looking ahead, KKR will aim to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign in the IPL 2025. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will need to regroup quickly to address their recent slump in form if they hope to secure a playoff spot.
