Kirkland Signature Organic Eggs Recalled Due To Salmonella Concerns

Handsome Brook Farms issues recall affecting over 10,000 units sold across five states, including Georgia

Salmonella Risk Prompts Kirkland Signature Organic Eggs Recall Across Multiple States

Handsome Brook Farms has initiated a significant recall of approximately 10,800 units of Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised Eggs due to potential salmonella contamination. These eggs were distributed at 25 Costco locations within five states, including Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, starting on November 22.

The recall announcement was made public by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday, following the company discovering packaging error. The eggs, which were not originally intended for retail distribution, were found to have been mistakenly packed and sold to consumers.

While no illnesses related to this recall have been reported, Handsome Brook Farms is acting as a precautionary measure to protect health and safety. Salmonella can result in serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly posing higher risks to young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.

The recalled egg cartons can be identified by the UPC code 9661910680.

Consumers can distinguish the affected products by checking for the Julian Code 327 and the “Use By” date of January 6, 2025, printed on the side of the carton. Eggs sold under this brand are packaged in plastic cartons labeled with the Kirkland Signature brand.

Those who have purchased these recalled eggs are advised to stop using the affected products immediately. Customers can return the affected cartons to their local Costco store for a full refund or dispose of them safely.

Handsome Brook Farms aims to prevent future occurrences of similar issues by implementing additional supply chain controls and retraining staff on proper handling and distribution practices.

For any inquiries, consumers may contact Handsome Brook Farms directly at 646-733-4532, ext. 1, between 9 AM and 6 PM EST, weekdays. Alternatively, they may reach out via e-mail at [email protected].

The importance of vigilance concerning food safety cannot be overstated, particularly during holiday seasons when organic eggs are popular for various recipes. The FDA emphasizes awareness of symptoms associated with salmonella which can include fever, diarrhea (potentially blood), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Should any consumer display severe symptoms, particularly those within the at-risk categories, immediate medical attention is advised.
